Not to go off on this, but both of you are wrong.
It was originally a gang banger thing in prison in response to the fear of rape and fights. Basically "Fuck you, I'm going to show you my ass and if you so much as touch it, I'll beat you senseless!" That was the original idea, of course some prisoners were 'advertising' as well! :lol:
I know this because I commented on it after seeing in in jails and prisons visiting locked up friends in the late 80's early 90's.
