Help getting ASIO4ALL working with Ableton...

Post by GR@B US! » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:33 pm

Very confused on how to get ASIO4ALL working. Be reading posts all morning and haven't made any progress...

I have a Gateway Laptop with VISTA 64 bit and a Conextant high def. Smart Audio 221 sound card.

But when I try to use my TASCAM us-144 in Ableton live I am getting a delay with the microphone that renders it unusable. I can tweak the setting to get the crackling and distortion gone but the delay is still there...Here is a picture of that setup in ableton

So I did some research and found out about ASIO4ALL and installed it and try and get that running but I cant seem to get any sound out of ableton or my Computer at all...

Why cant I hear any sound when I try to use ASIO4ALL?

I know its just a matter of getting all of the settings right...but i have tried so many combinations...I figured I would post here...PLEASE HELP!!

Go to Ableton's preferences. Select ASIO. And the Asio4all.

Hit "configure" and then click on the wrench looking thing. Show a screen cap of that please :)

is see that skype icon...close it, go into skype audio prefs and disable until you need it, that POS ate my lunch for hours...

anything soundwise, itunes, anything anything, will interfere in asio...

that might not be technically correct/complete, but it has been my experience...

keep going though, once you have asio dialed in, its great...

Yeah I have closed skype and restarted ableton already to no avail. I know ASIO4ALL is good and what I need to solve my Latency issues but I just can't get it to play any sound out of my speakers!! The only time I get sound is when I press the test tone button in ableton.... :?

Identify what each item is on that list. Most fun way is to turn them all off except one, and experiment with each. Careful, may result in a crash!!

Chances are, you do not use spdif. If you aren't using it, turn it off. Identify which of those is your desired input and output etc. Turning things off should help for latency also

After that, in session view turn on your input/output. Set your Master to whatever works while you have a loop playing :)

Lastly, if you Only intend to use the Tascam, turn off the soundcard.

Sorry about requesting that image, my phone didn't show the whole thing (right side) at first :/

just an fyi i wish someone had told me...

set the main slider as low as possible when recording, but when you are not you can move it back up for better playback..

for me its 256 (rec), 1024 (play)
