OK so I wanted/needed a proper soundcard/interface for recording (with decent preamps)
Like the impulse buying idiot that I am got a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Take it home only to realise the 2ins and 2outs wouldnt support me listening to one output on the phones at the same time as outputing to the speakers unless in mono..
And the shop has a no returns policy..

Re: interface for recording
Check this out. I can't really speak from comparison...but this is what I use. Small and can be powered from a laptop and w a good # of inputs, too.

Re: interface for recording
What's your application, how many ins and outs do you need?
Focusrite Saffire USB might be a better choice, it supports two stereo outs for cueing, etc.
What kind of dealer has no returns? That's f#*%ed up.
