Which Ableton instruments you don’t use?
Re: Which Ableton instruments you don’t use?
It would be nice if you could do a poll where you set order to items.
Like: which instrument you use most should be first on the list, the one you use least should be the last.

I pretty much never use Impulse except when I load it up like "I should try Impulse again!" and promptly replace it with a drum rack because it's so much easier
Analog I've started playing around with again just for variety's sake
Collision I never program from scratch in, but I use presets every now and again for mallets
Everything else I use pretty often

Yeah I ended up getting Suite with a copy of 8 I purchased off someone here, and literally haven't used any of it. That may change, but for now Zebra 2, Absynth, Kontakt, and hardware are still what I use to compose.

Impulse here, I'd rather just do my drums directly in the arrange page.

I Don't "not use" any of them. where do I vote?

I don't like tension. I get some very nasty sounds...and as much as i like weird glitched out harsh stuff, it just puts me over the edge. I really need to take some time to figure it out so I can maximize the potential of suite.
Re: Which Ableton instruments you don’t use?
Funny to see Collision at the top of the 'don't use list'.
It's one of my favorites.

i dont use collision, but the plug in corpus is one of my favorites.
Re: Which Ableton instruments you don’t use?
i only use drum / instrument racks, and simpler. haven't really needed any of the others.

I think that Impulse is very cool, but I have trouble finding a workflow or hitting my stride using it.

Ya I never use Impulse. Drum racks are just so amazing! I usually have a separate rack(track) for kicks, snare/clap, highs, glitchy. Then I can process them all separately and then group them. I tried the arrangement thing a couple times, laying down the hits in tracks but it seems un-necessarily difficult and kinda renders the drum-racks use-less. I know a lot of people who do it that way but I don't see what the advantage is. The piano-roll in a drum-rack track is like a super simplified method for laying down hits compared to the arrangement thing.
Anyway, I'd love to find a reason to bust out Impulse because it is a nice little sample triggering device. It's got useful parameters and all that but I just never think to use it.
Maybe I'll go now and make a track using nothing but Impulse and some samples. See what happens : )

i wanna have sex with all pads of drum rack. i never use impulse too, only drum rack or if i need only one sample for a track i use simpler for kick, clap, sidechain etc. seperated kick, snare, clap and hihat = 4 tracks. one track with drum rack for another set of percussions (reverb as send in drum rack etc.) i never tried to build my drums in live´s arrangement view but i will try a few times.Theo Void wrote:Ya I never use Impulse. Re: Which Ableton instruments you don’t use?
haven't used impulse since drum racks were introduced. electric I almost never use - the parameter space it occupies is really constrained and operator can make 'slightly atonal attack - not much sustain' sounds without the pretense of using an electric piano. I only use it because some patches I made when I was learning how to use it are in my live sets. I thought analog was rubbish for about 2 years and now I am starting to get into its filter routing and general synthiness. It doesn't have enough modulation options and its no where near as versatile as operator though.
Me and tension have this thing going on, where we agree that it can't make a realistic violin sound - but I make space for these weird hammered dulcimer - harpsichord - clavinet hybrids that it delivers fairly quickly.
