sounds interesting... if a little complicated... I'm still trying to follow exactly what you mean! ;-) But I'm definitely down with the idea of something like a global record matrix - I imagine it more like Reason's blocks.

Have you seen Reason 5/6s "blocks" in action? I would love to see something similar in Live where maybe there were like "master clips" on the master track and each one is like a block in reason and basically is an alias for a whole chunk of the arrange view, but you can still override certain clips just by putting one in a slot along that scene. i.e. - in Reason, you can move the blocks around and they have a kind of faded "ghost" representation of the clips inside (that you layout in "blocks" view) but if you then put a clip in the arranger where there was already one in blocks view then the one you place get's priority and the other one is not played for the duration of that clip playing. Kind of similar to how session takes priority in Live.

Others here have been lobbying hard for a kind of "meta- clips" which looks a bit like what Bitwig have just announced where you can put more than one clip inside a clip. Personally I think while Blocks goes in the other direction, it would still allow for the same kind of complexity.

Yeah that does sound very interesting actually, and sort of along the lines of what I was talking about. I'm not too familiar with Reason but it does seem like a very cool way to think about music structure. Also yeah, Bitwig looks to have some promising features as well, I can only hope Live will follow suit.

Request is rather simple: more color options for clips.

hello all.

these are my top of the list feature requests.

clip slot specific keystrokes (midi mappable)!
the ability to midi map key commands and map them to clip slots/markers.
eg - being able to delete a clip from a specific clip slot or being able to trigger 'enter' on a specific clip slot to loop/playback a recording. or being able to 'undo' using a midi map button. on the same tip, internal mappings would be good, so being able to trigger a midi clip which is variety of different things. or even better multiple mappings for each control.

dummy clips!
being able to use dummy clips which simply 'block' the audio from another source/track.

excluding clips from scene launch!
also being able to turn play off on certain clips so they don't trigger during scene launches. basically excluding clips from scene launch (this would be a clip specific function)

momentary functions in map mode!
eg. mapping a launchpad note to a beatrepeat 'repeat' and telling ableton to turn it on when it detects note on and turn it off when it detects note off. at the moment ableton does not allow momentary functions in map mode.

loop/playback whatever is recording!
this feature request is for people who want to loop in the session view with clips and just have one control to playback loops in any clip slot that has something recording in it.
at the moment if you want a clip to playback when recording you have to literally trigger it again. if since you started recording your hands are busy and you want to loop that clip with a foot pedal you either need to trigger a scene or the recording clip itself. for live looping this is no good as you need a foot pedal for each scene/clip.
looper is useless as you can't separate out clips/loops and it introduces loads of latency into your set.

global play button synced to global launch quantise!
this would mean if you are recording

cheers!

A possibility to preview which 3rd party VST plugins are used in each channel of the track before loading it. Silly maybe?

It could be useful when we transfer tracks from one computer to another.

Working on some old projects I sometimes find myself searching for the individual crashing plugin that prevents me from loading the track into Live.

This way we would have the option to temporarily remove the suspicious VST plugins and save precious time.

Duplicate Return tracks (Ctrl + d) WTF not?

Post by Onanism » Sat Feb 25, 2012 11:24 pm

I would love to be ableto duplicate return tracks in the same way we can for midi/audio tracks.
Recently i wanted to duplicate a reverb return track so i could modify the track activator (on/off) button so i could have the exact same multiple envelopes i had set up except modify one of them, as i wanted to apply it to a different audio track.
To do this at the moment i have to go through each envelope and copy & paste it into a new return track, which sucks. I cant think of any other way?? Help!
I cant see what is stopping Ableton from enabling this as its already there for midi/audio tracks.
After all.....isn't it called ABLE TO N for a reason?

i) I am looking forward to an Ableton Sampler with rootkey & Loop start/end automation if this is even possible.

- The Ableton Sampler would be the ideal kind of thing if it had those two parameters enabled in an automated process. At the moment, we can only record in a separate audio channel without having the ability for further customization. I had a track where this could lead into some very interesting results of audio manipulation.

ii) Also I dunno if it has been mentioned before, but it would be very cool if we would see the Save function NOT destroying the ability to UNDO, (like it happens in some major 3D applications, sometimes it can save your life from a false movement 8) )

Control Link like Studio One seems really (!) cool!

Ooh and Live is also getting behind on the native plugins it seems (amp modelling, pedal boards, ...)
Multiple audio editing would be expected too.

One very annoying thing in Live8 is that sometimes I have to disconnect MIDI keyboard and put harddisk to that USB slot temporarily. Then when I put the MIDI keyboard back Windows recognizes it as supposed to but Ableton does not without quitting the program and starting again.

As live project loads in 30-40s, and quits in like 10-15s it costs me always like 60-90s in total to do the change.

So please make Live9 so robust that you can connect/disconnect controllers (maybe even audio interfaces) without requiring restart of the program.

Thank you.

"excluding clips from scene launch!

+ 1 (although one could find work arounds)
Or a clip master (a clip on the master channel which "collects all the clips" which should play in the scene?
+ 1 on Rec for x bars
although I did something like this in m4l, would be nice to have it directly implemented...
