how to build a live-gig-setting in live

Post by chrom » Wed Feb 29, 2012 12:57 pm

hi together,
are there any information / tutorials on how to build a whole live-gig-setting in live?
or does anyone have tips to do this? especially to the topics :
how to organize a whole gig with several songs?
how will you manage the switch from one song to the next?

more in detail:
i want to use only audio-clips (no instrument-plugins) but fx-pluginswith live-automation (insert & send) for all songs.
is a whole gig organized within one live set (perhaps for 30 minutes or much more in one arrangement)?
do you set fixed points in the arrangement to switch to the next song - perhaps with initial-settings for every song? set individual tempo, track-sends, different fx-parameter-settings, ...
how will such switches be managed?

are there different approaches for organizing a whole gig in live and the switching to next song?

thank you

There is no right or wrong answer to your question. Only lots of different ones.

Keywords: Trial and error!

Here's how I do it:

Tom Cosm has some videos on his site about his setup as well.

thank you for your answers

i read /saw something about arrangement approaches but in the examples it was only within 1 song.
is it really doable for e.g. a 60 minutes gig to use a complete arrangement of 8 to 12 tracks filled with all audio-material- without problems?

how do they reset the insert fx-parameters & sends - with "Back to Arrangement" button?

@ Tarekith
i like your only-session-approach as a ideal starting point. it's easy & clear & without arrangement at all.

but i have a few questions:
your common-8-knob-fx-rack is in every track. that means you have 64 insert-fxs? is this cpu-ok and stable?

how are the adjustments of the fx-rack reset for the next song? is it automatically within each clip when starting a new song-scene?

& what happens with the adjustments of the fx-rack in your song's second scene (solo, ...)? are they reset or can you let the current manual adjusted positions of the 8 knobs active?

how do you reset the sends?

where are all your 32-bar-clips ? harddisk or ram?

thank you
