Operator vowel question

Post by luba0432 » Wed Feb 29, 2012 4:50 pm

Hey Ableton users,

I have been using operator a lot recently to create awesome electro and dub sounds - I didn't realize how powerful it really is. But while I have made several effective talking basses that are gritty and unique, when I automate the filter frequency they all have the "i" to "ah" vowels, creating the "yaahhh" bass noise. I am wondering if anyone can help me to create the same type of synth with the "ooh" to "ah" vowels, to make the "oouuuuaaaa" noise. Specifically, I would like to re-create a similar noise to the one at the beginning of the drop in caspa's "where's my money" that goes "oouuuaaa." Thanks in advance, happy producing!

The eq8 has vowel presets in the library..stack some in a rack and blend them with the chain selector

I don't know if this will give you the sound you're looking for, but this is one additional way to create a "vocal" bassline:

Use Analog! It has a Formant filter specially created for vovel sounds. So its pretty easy to get such sounds with it.

The intro of my most recent song is made like this. Its not a bass sound, but you can hear what analog is capable of creating vovel sounds:

Ya, the EQ8 vowel presets work well for this. It's best to build a rack with all the vowel presets and the oscillator(synth) that your using. That way you can map macros so automation is un-complicated. You have to play around with the movement and combinations of the vowel peaks. And to get that gritty "yoy"sound make sure you place the redux after the filter.

awesome thanks a lot guys! Also, if anyone figures out how to make that uuoooaaaa sound in where's my money by caspa and is willing to share, it can be any of the following synths: any native ableton synth, massive, fm8, absynth, or sylenth
