Hey guys,

I want to know, when you guys create a song, do you start with the drum, the beat, the synth... or you go from intro to outro...

Also, how do you split your channels? (drums, bass, synths...)

What is your workflow and how do you build your things?

i often heared: There are as much ways to work with live as there are users!

and that`s definitly true.

and even every artist may vary their workflow from time to time or from track to track.

one way is to start with the drums, of course.
but other times you have one sound, one loop, one melody (anything)in mind on which the whole song should stand and then you start with that element.

when i already have the song in my head i start directly in the arrangment view, but sometimes i just start to play with sounds in the session view, collect some ideas and build up the peak (don`t know a better word in english for that, hope you understand!) of the track and when i`m happy with that i record it to the arrangement view, where then i start to create the structure.

that`s the best thing with live: just play and the rest will develope! (or not

For my own stuff, I always seem to start in session view with a melody, sample or idea first...I get that into a clip(s), then quickly build out a beat or selection of beats that work with the idea/style and then hunt for other ideas (samples) or patches that might accompany the main "theme" of where I think the song might go. Once I have something that might be the good basis for a song, I'll arranged the clips into a set of scenes that will get me through the first or second breakdown of a standard song template that I usually start from...once there, I record into arrangement view and leave session view. I usually then work on the intro and main idea of the song before I'll rough out the full arrangement. From there it can go many different directions (quick production/mix and finish the song, never finish it, completely rework it, let it sit for months to come back and finds something new and interesting about it...)

The one piece of advice I'd give is to get out of session view and into the arrangement as soon as possible.

Could have said all this too.. Except for the last sentence.. because you have to learn to trust yourself and believe in your own process..
Session view is no trap/swamp/jail, and often I go back there from Arrangement to redo and further enhance the idea.

I start with whatever i was messing with that inspired me. Sometimes it's a bass sound. Sometimes it's drums. Sometimes it's pads. Depends.

Usually I do have a group track that is "Drums" with a sub-track that is kick, snare, closed hh, open, hh, etc.... One for bass, pads, etc... as you might expect. But I don't really write this way, i just end up organizing it that way once i have a song going and want to do some mixing.

Wow, ok, thanks for your tips guys.

Most of you take the same path as I do to create songs. I still doner, when you guys go with a "live performance" do you keep your template the same as the one you create the song?
