I was looking for an answer to this yesterday when I was updating a homemade TouchOsc template to use with a Clyphx X-Control script I'm working on. Sure, controls read the values, but not names. I need it to read Rack names, and that's only possibly with OSC, right?
The latest update to TouchOsc has a Bridge which means you don't need PD as a middle man, which is great, but my script would almost be better than LiveControl if it could read names:/

THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF UBER FUCKING BASIC SHIT THAT LIVE 9 HAD BETTER HANDLE. EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID.

Seriously, ClyphX is fucking great but honestly......fucking no brainer......any DAW worth 2 shits should have that kind of capability onboard and native.

I just can't put it any more plainly. Yeah, automation in session view and whatnot. 64bit. Dual screen support. blah blah blah. I get all those.

But those basic fucking routing things?

Should have been added 2 versions ago, sorry. Live is all about LIVE.

I came for the

I think Live 9 should have an easter-egg hidden game, possibly a Snake type of thing or a Space Invaders clone or even a Breakout clone. I especially would like the latter two because they could be controlled with a midi knob.

My live show is really just a playback and checking my e-mails requires using the mouse, playing a video game with midi knobs would really make me look busy and motivated.

I have it on good authority that Ableton will stop the usual practice of placing a number on the next version and instead will call it Live: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

HA! Hopefully more like ": Resurrection" than "Passion of the Live"

Orion used to have a hidden game (Ctrl-Alt-G). It was the 'move boxes around to get to the exit' kind... :?

I'm starting to get antsy for 64bit now that my new template takes over a gig of ram so it doesn't take long to get to 1.5 and then it's curtains.

I really don't see any way Ableton can avoid announcing something when Bitwig goes beta,
so it's a perfect time to guess on improvements and new features.
Harmless speculation is IMO much better than complaining. :)

Here's mine, Live 9 will have:

Automation curves,
New instruments and FX, including an improved Sampler.
64 bit,
Take Comping,
Touch automation as well as the current Latch style,
New controller partnerships,
Some sort of take on Autotune/Melodyne style pitch correction.

I don't think Ableton will:
Implement dual monitor support,
change the GUI,
Get SysEx or OSC support,
Change the Session View or really do much to it at all.

IMO Ableton are moving towards a full fledged DAW, but keeping some of the simplicity/laptop orientation they've always had.
I don't think they're that interested or that worried about live performance beyond controllers that fire clips in an intuitive way.
Not based on a company choice internally but more on what the market demands.
Too little too late for me, I've now been using 64 bit Sonar X1 for the past 8 Months, Wished that Ableton would have released their 64 bit version before i had to go through an entire new learning curve :) Oh also playing with Reaper 64 bit DAW! but Sonar x1 it my main toy now.
Taskam FW-1804
AMD Phenom X6 / 6 core 3.3ghz CPU's
RAM 16GB with 300GB SSD Drive, Boot-up time = 4 Seconds :)
Graphics card, NVidea 2GB
Sonar X1 'C 64 Bit,
64 Bit Win 7 Professional
Dual 23' Dell monitors
Running 64 bit Sonar X1 DAW!

IMO Live is stil best at being a live instrument or hyper sampler. This is why I hope they improve the Sampler.
But yeah, if a normal DAW can replace Live for you, then why use Live?
