I really don't think that makes much a difference. Part of our system is about using and abusing loopholes and indirect forms of control ie segregation. Talk and print can say all they want, it will never be as valid as what's actually being done. If they all happen to match, well it's a miracle.
Well for one the amount of lynchings and killings is down, and when it happens it's heavily punished instead of the perpetrators given the lightest sentence they could. Seriously, there's little way to deny this simple fact, peopler were more racist 50-100-1000 years ago, and were more violently racist.
How many millenia does it take for humankind to make the same mistakes over and over?
We like to fool ourselves into thinking we're more civilized than we actually are and by denying it we become worse. Then there's the whole argument of what's civilized. An indigneous tribe may be more civilized than an oil company. Oh but because they live in the forest wearing grass skirts hunting with spears they must be retarded

We're superior because we've got cars and concrete jungles and suits and potato chips and television derp derp derp!
Agree, but in this case tribal societies aren't in question, they work their shit out pretty democratically generally. World wide civilizations however took years to calm down, and still cannot calm down. We learn from mistakes unfortunately, WWI II etc. but even then we only slow it down to a 'cold' war.
I wouldn't; the source of the problems aren't different.
the source of the problems are simple, we're not good at big civilizations, we did OK at smaller units, but once we got to the cities and larger 'tribes' stage we lost it.
In the future or past? It could depends on the times vs ones mentality IF we're capable of having broken this cycle 400 years in the future. In this case it's about the times and the only "progress" I've seen is technology while mental/spiritual dissonance is at an all time high. That's part of the problem. The structures we've created are dissonant with our natural selves. Spritual imbalance = mental illness.
We think we're superior because we've progressed technologically while the other parts get neglected so now we have this imbalance and arrogance. You wouldn't rape your mom, shove trash up her pussy and poison her while feeling superior in the process but what the fuck do we do? We are collectively not capable of maintaining genuine positive intention once we reach a certain threshold of power. We have heaven on earth and just love to say "fuck you I'm superior" and feel empowered by destroying it; it's pathetic.
Just because we've advanced technologically doesn't mean we aren't in the dark ages. Mentally we're not that different from millenia ago and just because we still have thousand year old systems in place doesn't mean they're necassary or good.
Again, public executions of criminals isn't the norm, in fact executions aren't the norm, that, is progress. War crimes still go on, but it's not universally ignored like it was 400 years ago etc. The USA for instance, and China, Russia etc. we're all criticized heavily for actions that reek of colonialism, and mostly the rest of the world doesn't approve. War Crimes exist, which wasn't even a thought when the Romans were crucifying every last person in Carthage. Slavery is gone in direct form, and although inherited wealth and the obvious disparity it brings is still in place it's not universally accepted that the upper class is of a better quality of genetic stock. Things simply are not as bleak as they were 500 years ago. For instance I'm mostly Irish and I'm dammed sure that the quality of life of my great great grandfathers and mothers was beyond awful considering history. I would think that most all black americans would agree that while things still suck, it's much better to be alive now than 150 years ago when you were outright property. Things are improving, it's just at a glacial pace, which makes it hard to recognize.
I do have optimism and I think all the stress that's been going on is because these structures are not working and we're tired of it. The man has the power and has the advantage in fighting back but at some point justice prevails. More people are being proactive about the environment and social rights, despite the fact we shouldn't have had to deal with a lot of the problems and for so long in the first place.
I think now that generations are inherently tech-savvy with this technology and science that bullshit like religion is just a troll that will go away by being ignored. You gotta crush the coal to make a diamond and it ain't pretty but you gotta go through it. I do have faith in humankind, but the past couple thousand years up to the current general environment is really just fucking embarrassing.
Now, as I've written this drivel I've been feeling spiffy, so it's not like I'm sitting here all emo and hopeless; guess I just needed to take a shit.
Well the thing is maybe fortunately we don't have written history of the 150 thousand years previous to the last 6 or so. It might be even more embarrassing not less.
Again human life is valued at a higher level now than any other time in history, which is progress.
I do think that like most things that change, we're in a retrograde cycle, it's certainly not as productive as the WWII era or the 60's in terms of radical shifts in belief systems.
Some of that may be due to benign mind control devices like TV. It's not some conspiracy, just that TV is run by people who are essentially successful in the status quo, therefore they abhor any hint of change. IMO this is the next greatest enemy of evolution, that we're plugged in to a constant barrage of unnecessary wants and 'ethical' belief structures.
Ha! it's obvious that work is in a downward slump for me right now going off on this shit.
