hi.

iam trying ableton but i have a problem, when iam using it, if i just have some vst plugins and a few pieces my cpu goes to 14 and starts crashing:(

is that normal? just like 14 or 15 and crashing:(

iam using big files like 5 or 6 min. long instead of samples is that maybe the cause?

iam using xp and my laptop is 2.0 speed. so i guees is not that.

please help, please help.

Hi Wendy J.,

I don't thing that the crash is related to the CPU usage display. But I need some more information about the problem.

So please answer the following questions:

- Which Live version do you use?
- What type of crash do you get? (just crashing Live or the complete system so that you have to reboot?)
- Do you get this crash without using these VST's?

Actually, it doesn't exactly crash the system or ableton, just the mixing iam doing. starts like skiping and little stoping.

so i can't make make a nice mix without worring about it.

the files iam using are quite big (a lot of m.bytes) maybe that?

iam using ableton 2.0

what can be?

Hello Wendy,

It seems that maybe you are getting dropouts and glitches due to you hard disk overloading. Look to see if your hard disk overload indicator is lighting up (this is the D in the top right corner of the Live window) when you get glitches, if it is this means that your laptop hard drive is having to work too hard.

Try changing buffer sizes for your audio interface, make them larger and see if this helps...

yea the hard disk overload indicator (D) indicate an overload but just of 14%
and then i have problems...

you can get into trouble on yr "h.d.o.i." with just a 14%?

Hi Wendy,

a CPU usage of 14% doesn't seem to be the problem but the hard disk overload.

Do you get this hardidsk overload also if you just play one sample?
Do you get it for all samples or just for the longer one?

Could be that your harddisk is fragmented and because you use samples some minutes long this could be the problem.

You could run Win XP defragmentation tool to defragment the disk.

I just get the 14% overload with the longer ones...
