So I've had this HP tower for almost 3 years, nothing stellar, just a home computer that I installed Win7 on instead of Vista. I started using Ableton lite 7 at first, just for recording ideas etc but over the years, I've gotten very familiar with it and it has become not only a tool for producing but for playing live with backing tracks in my band, and DJing. Part of what I'm hoping to do is modify my tower so I can use more powerful VST's and some of the Suite devices, although I'm not sure how far I can push it. Not much of a wiz, but I know it has two more slots for RAM and an extra slot for another hard drive so there must be room for improvement. Can anyone tell me how to narrow down how I can improv its performance what will work with my computer? My model is a Pavilion A6412 with Windows 7 32 bit, Pentium Dual CPU, E2180 2.00GHz with 3gb installed ram.

You can add 1 gig of ram, and that's about it. Ableton live is still at 32 bits so it wont use more than 4 gig.

I still haven't tried Solid State Drives yet, but from what I understand it's something you can upgrade and totally notice the difference. However there is a lot to learn about how to get the most out of one for the price. As in this thread http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=177456
