Why is beatport so pricey?

Post by dazzer » Fri Mar 23, 2012 3:43 pm

Noisa's new album:

beatport $18.99
Drum n Bass arena £6.99 = $11.10

Am I missing something here?

I think beatport is really not the right place for buying albums. Usually just getting the CD from either the label or amazon or play.com is way cheaper than buying on beatport, especially if you buy uncompressed. In euros or uk pounds the prices are even worse.

Well at least they did something about that horrid flash site of theirs. :)

interesting observation man. I always buy at beatport (only sometimes i bought on arena when it was not available on BP).
Maybe I should switch back, but I like the the interface on BP much more and the preview is much longer. Though I don't wanna pay that much if i can get it cheaper.

As to your question: good question :DD

Yep. I only tend to buy albums, D&BA is good price and direct from labels like Hostpital or Shogun works out well.

Man, that's an abusive price for the Nosia album, dear oh dear...

Guy I know recently released an album on beatport, first time I'd really checked the site out. £8.99 for mp3 (10 tracks).. £21 for wav..wtf! 8O

Guess they rely on most people buying single tracks and not thinking about how badly they are being ripped off.

Beatport has by far the largest catalog, and it was the first edm store online. So many people rely on them for digging music. I have bought my music there since 2006, never regret it.

Advertising cost... I think Beatport does a ton of marketing. Someone has to pay for it :-)

Yeah maybe, big catalogue, long history, good marketing....good points I guess.

But 40% price difference? Imagine you wanna buy the album I mentioned - which of the 2 stores are you gonna use...?

(Not slagging of BP and I'm sure for singles browsing for certain genres it's the place to go)

Beatport is waaaaaaaay too expensive but has a nice catalogue and site.
What i find really upsetting is the 1 additional € to get a WAV, making a physical copy cost less of the only lossless charge. Crazy.

FWIW i love Bandcamp.
