Hi Guys,
So im using auto filter to cut unwanted frequencies eg kick and bass. I noticed when I say add a HP filter to my bass line and cut say anything below 100hz that it doesn't really affect the readings on the spectrum analyzer but i do notice a difference in sound. Why is this? I think it changes visually a bit. When I really get extreme with the filter than its noticeable on the spectrum.
thanks

Re: Ableton Auto Filter and Spectrum Question....
it's probably just a matter of getting used to reading Spectrum. hearing is weird in that it's non-linear, so we turn to the decibel system to make audio measurements more meaningful. I think you've got Spectrum in regular mode instead of logarithmic mode, switch to logarithmic mode. decibels are a logarithmic unit of measure. wikipedia might have some entries to help you understand the concepts.
