Maybe a lot of you don't remember, but years ago ableton was forced by it's users to add stuff like 'Slicer' into Live. Many of the advancements in other DAWs came from Fruity Loops FIRST. They are not new to the game.

FL Studio has always been Production over Live-Performance... Live still doesn't even have curves, that's insane. So now that FL is adding 'performance Modes', it definitely creates temptation to Jump Ship. I'm not saying FL is better than Live, I'm simply saying FL has many things that Live still doesn't, and may be worth it for a lot of people.

Maybe some of you don't know what's been going on with FL... Yes it has built in warping and Melodyne too... Not to mention FL's piano roll craps all over LIVE. When Live 9 comes out, if it's half-assed, I'm gone (if the Performance Mode in FL is up to par)

The main thing here is, FL's development team listen and respond to people on their forums, Ableton's, well...dont. What users ask for in FL, they usually get. The only thing it really needs is track warping, but i dare say that will happen in FL11.

There's quite a few pro's who do use it too, which blows the "it sounds shit" argument out of the water; Avicii, Madeon, Afrojack, Porter Robinson...all use FL and its native plugs, to name a few.

To me, the live mode in FL doesnt look right. It looks a bit cobbled together. Ableton's isnt. FL also still doesnt have track freezing in it :O

Live 8 works as it is yes, yes we would like to hear whats in the pipeline, but, tbh, i'm more than happy with Live 8 and it does what i need it too. I would rather Ableton get the next version right an wait a while, rather than jump ship...so yeah +1 from me for the annoying "i want Live 9 now, otherwise i'm going onto Reason/Logic/Cubase/Bitwig/FLStudio"

I do still have my FL license, but i am thinking of selling it, because i dont use it. If i ever got another DAW, it would be Cubase, but even then, i would still build tracks in Live and master/mix it in Cubase (i like the mixer in Cubase).

Unfortunately, the FL Studio license cannot be transferred... That's somewhere in the license agreement. I like FL Studio quite a bit. But YMMV of course :)

Do you realise that people have been making awesome music for centuries with nothing but a piano, some paper and a pen? (insert favourite rock band here) have made music with a drum kit, a bass guitar, one or two guitars and a vocalist. They've been doing this for decades, and they're still doing it.

My point is: if you feel that Ableton Live, with its endless possibilities (and maybe a plugin or two) won't allow you to make music, then maybe music is not really for you?

(OK; I've had quite a bit of wine tonight, but, in a nutshell, those are my feelings on the matter. I think we're all experts at making excuses.)
Love this comment...please leave all your frustration aside from this forum...it should be meant to share ideas on how to use Ableton not to continously blame them because they are not revealing the date of issue for Ableton 9.

Please please please...

Something I find very strange is each and every time I visit the Ableton forums, I hardly ever see thread about Ableton. Always some rant, or OT thread. If I were a Moderator here, I'd try to get the forum back on track. As of right now, it's simply a public voicing ground for any topic on your mind.

yes, the moderators tried hard, creating "the lounge" and other subforums for dedicated stuff, and they began to move threads to the lounge, but the lounge's crowd went nuts and killed the mods, so anarchy is back.

anyway, I read this thread and this reminded me how easy it was even with fruity loops 2, back in year 2000, to create and edit with "piano roll windows", and how it is un-pleasant to make midi editions in ableton's midi clips...

I don't think this one thread is really to be blamed as an "another live 9 rant thread"

but I hear you :D

Definitely not a Live 9 rant thread. It's really about Ableton as a whole. As I've pointed out in a couple posts in this thread, Ableton Live IS a great product. I use it daily. It's just that they have stagnated. Companies and software shouldn't do that.

What if the only iPhone were the very first released iPhone. Not the 3, 3s, 4, 4s, etc... and the iOS operating system keeps upgrading/updating. iPhones are as popular as they are cause the keep improving.

the piano has really stagnated over the last 100 hundred years.

Cool idea for someone who doesn't have live 7 or 8.
