SPD-S and scene launch
SPD-S and scene launch
Hello I am using a Roland SPD-S as a midi controller to launch some scenes in Ableton. I would almost swear in earlier versions of Ableton the sensitivity settings on my SPD-S worked. Does anyone know if its possible to set either a midi gate for the Scene Launch so it does not accidentally launch a scene from another pad?

Re: SPD-S and scene launch
I've got an SPD30 - as the sensitivity settings are on the the drumpad itself, not Live, I'm not sure how the version of live would make a difference?
Re: SPD-S and scene launch
Yeah I wasn't 100% sure but I never had the mistriggering that I am experiencing now and the midi setup seems to be far more comPlex in ableton now. I know the sensitivity settings are on the drum pad itself but I didn't know if there was some info that ableton was receiving in conjunction with the "note on" that was allowing the sensitivity to be recognized. Maybe I was just overthinking the whole thing. I was just hoping someone might know a solution.pedroschki wrote:I've got an SPD30 - as the sensitivity settings are on the the drumpad itself, not Live, I'm not sure how the version of live would make a difference?

Don't think there's anything that can be tweaked at Live's end I'm afraid (at least not that I know of!) Have you tried adjusting the 'threshold' on the drum pad as well as the sensitivity? Think that's meant to reduce crosstalk between the pads...
Re: SPD-S and scene launch
Unfortunately I think threshold setting is for external triggers or pads external to the SPD-s. oh well I will keep experimenting. Thanks for the suggestions.

I am still having issues with Ableton not recognizing the sensitivity settings of the SPD-S. I didn't know if any one had any other work arounds I could try.

Re: SPD-S and scene launch
If you're playing the pads as drums, I think the problem is that the spd-s is not sending velocity like you want it to.
OK, I guess the drum sound might not be responding to the midi velocity. I've personally never seen a drum patch that didn't respond to velocity...
If you're just triggering clip launches or other one-shot events, why is sensitivity important? Just whack it.
I've got an spd but have never used the midi-out. Will try..

Re: SPD-S and scene launch
I am using the SPD as a midi controller to just control scene launches. The problem is if I whack one pad too hard I sometimes get false triggers on other pads which in turn will launch other scenes. If I check the SPDS onboard settings the sensitivity threshholds are set properly so this shouldn't happen but Ableton is not receiving this info.

If there a crosstalk or cross-triggering setting in the spd? Can't remember..
Some of the roland stuff has such.

Re: SPD-S and scene launch
Yes there are settings in the SPD. Any changes I make to these settings are not being recognized by Ableton
