4-5 audio tracks and I get glitches/dropouts. new MBP

Post by deichmusik » Tue Apr 10, 2012 11:06 am

In my small studio I use a Quad Core I5 Mac 27 inch with 4 GB Ram.
My mobile MBP has an I7 with 4GB Ram.

When I use 4-5 audio tracks (mono, some stereo @ 24bit and 96 KHz), the CPU power rises so high, that it seems like I have reached the end of the power in my computer. It´s impossible to use additional Plugins e.g. Studio Drummer or Alicias´Keys (all original software and actual versions). I am disappointed and I am sure that this could not be all...
Do I have to use tweaks ? Could I increase a "disk" buffer ? Is the slow HD the reason ??? I also could add RAM expansion, but is the difference so big ? Who has same problems ?

Not yet, but I think a new Mac Book Pro could make more. My I5 Imac uses a TC desktop konnekt FW Interface with actual drivers...

Any specific reason you're working in 24bit/96 KHz?

I think the first thing to say is : this is not a normal number of tracks to start having problems with.
Most of us are working at far far higher track counts than that, with lots of VSTs and other stuff. There is certainly a problem.

it might be worth contacting support about this, because we can only guess.
