Do yourself a favour and edit the thread title and original post. You can still get an answer to this problem and salvage some dignity. If you keep up this attitude, you're just going to get abuse. The wolves are circling.Opz wrote:'Can't get stereo signal in'?? What are you talking about? I never said I wanted to record a stereo signal nor did I say my stereo input turns to mono.rikhyray wrote:You asked for it. There is difference asking for help "cant get stereo signal in" or "why my stereo input turns mono" to "Recording Shoot out Ableton proved inferior?" I , neither anyone familiar with audio production needs to know anything more about you then read your post and hear the examples. I dont want to make fool out of you, you did.
My money is on audio in set to single input, but that's without seeing what you did of course.

Man I hope you've purchased the EXTREME edition. so much powerful and its frequency range is awesomeH20nly wrote:last night i bought a Cuisinart CJE-1000. Live definitely has inferior sound quality. the summing bus sound engine auto warp modulator code wave generator algorithms are clearly different. Live is incapable of generating that level of tones and frequencies on any kind of comparable playing field.

Opz, here's a test for you. To disprove or prove your hypothesis, it is crucial these instructions are followed exactly.
1. Download this file: http://www.fakecomputermusic.com/etc/LiveRender4Opz.aif (Stereo 24/44 file, I made it just for you from samples and Live instruments/effects)
2. Load the clip into PT with NO effects/processing. Leave all faders and everything alone. Take care not to add any silence at the beginning or end of the clip.
3. Render the session back out as stereo aiff or wav at 24/44.
4. Load the clip into Live with NO effects/processing/warping. Leave all faders and everything alone. Take care not to add any silence at the beginning or end of the clip.
5. Render the session back out as stereo aiff or wav at 24/44.
6. Verify that the file sizes are identical, or damn near close (within a few kb). If not, go back to step 1.
7. Upload your renders and post 'em here so we can all do the polarity reverse thing.
The idea here is to keep it "in the box," without any influence from AD/DA converters, jitter, audio hardware bugs, timing issues, frame skips, electrical hiccups, latency, hard drive seeks, CPU dropouts, or any of that other mumbo-jumbo that can be introduced at any point in the recording chain. If the renders you upload aren't identical and one does indeed sound "better" than the other, I'll eat one of my hats. I have many beanies and a video camera.

Ah, I discovered what went wrong. I'm still learning, I can admit when I made a mistake.
So at 96 kHz/32 bit they're the same indeed. After conversion to 44.1 kHz they're not due to conversion quality difference?
Cheers, Opz

no... !!! the 96Khz file is clearly in DUAL - MONOOpz wrote: After conversion to 44.1 kHz they're not due to conversion quality difference?

(means something is wrong before conversion)

Me too, except for 3dot who keeps on bitching about a faulty recording which I found out about what went wrong. So yes 3dot, those files you're still talking about are not identical due to my mistake. As I posted before (which you might have missed due to all the flames surrounding me) I would run new test recordings. The new recordings proved them to be the same, but not after conversion.the_planet wrote:Hooray! I love a happy ending.

Why anyone would flame a post originally claiming to have found irrefutable proof of Live being crap but turned out to be user error I have no idea...
Re: Recording Shoot-out: I made a mistake!
You are right about me deserving some of that, but in my original post I never used the word 'crap'.dazzer wrote:Why anyone would flame a post originally claiming to have found irrefutable proof of Live being crap but turned out to be user error I have no idea...
I did use the word inferior in the title, which basically means it is less than the one it's compared too (look up the defeinition). Later on in the same post I used the words 'the lesser recording of the two' (due to me making a stupid mistake which I admitted), once again I did not use the word 'crap'. You just fill that in for me even though I also posted later on I would still be using Live for my own production because I love the workflow. Just because I made a mistake to which I admitted, doesn't mean you have to fill in any words for me which I didn't use in the first place...
