I just switched audio interfaces to a Tascam us-144mkII. Its a USD audio interface. What I as using before was a super old "Hercules Game Theater XP". It was about 10 years old.... so old that its not even called an audio interface, its labled a sound card and was marketed for video games.
I never had any latency issues with the old Hercules card, it plugged into one of the PCI slots... not sure if that had anything to do with it. But I figured the tascam wouldn't have any issues seeing how its about 8 year newer or so.
The latency issues are when using my midi keyboard, which so far is plugged into the computer via the usb cable... not plugged into the audio interface via a midi cable. How can I go about getting rid of the latency? Its really really bad. I tryed messing wth the latency area od ableton, but with no luck. Not really sure how or what I was adjusting exactly, but none of it helped.
Was thinking maybe plug the keyboard into the audio interfaces midi in, but I know lots of people that just use midi into their computers usb, and it works just fine... which is how it worked with my old sound card. I also heard that usb was faster then midi anyway.
Please help, the latency is sooo bad It makes using the key board worthless.

First thing to check on is correcting the latency between the interface and Live.
There is a section in the Live Lessons section that addresses this .
You can access the lessons from the Session/Arrangement View in Live. If that does not solve your problem then you try setting the buffer levels in the preferences tab also in Live.
I am using one of those Tascama and the latency factor for me is negligible.
Of course there may be other areas that you can troubleshoot, but have a look at these areas first.

Re: Tascam us-144mkII Audio Interface Latancy Issue
Thanks for the help. I was able to find some newer drivers to install that took care of the latency issue. I do get some weird choppy, glitchy sound wile playing ableton projects wile other audio programs are open as well... or the net. Like, if I have youtube open to watch a tutorial and flip back and forward from the net to ableton. Or if I'm referancing another song with windows media player... at least I think that's what's going the glitch stuff now. When it happends it almost sounds like it does when your CPU usage reaches %100, that's kind of glitchy sound.
