How do you handle notation for your Live sets?(session view)
Re: How do you handle notation for your Live sets?
up at the top, hell, I forget the specific name of the area, it's where the measure markers are (but , you can right-click and add a location marker which you can put things like "chorus" "verse1" at. I used to name all my Arrangement clips like this until I discovered this handy feature (that I so failingly described).
I don't 'produce.' I write music.
Re: How do you handle notation for your Live sets?
I just found out that you can drag images into the arrangement the same way you can video clips. Both .jpg and .png work, probably others do as well. So you could save sheet music pages as .png and drag them to the arrangement at the right spot. Something nice is that if images are butted up against one another in the timeline, the second image only overwrites the part of the first one that corresponds to its own aspect ration. So if you start with a square and then have a rectangle, part of the square will still be visible when the rectangle is showing. Pretty useful!

Re: How do you handle notation for your Live sets?(session view)
Thanks for the tips, that's very interesting. I actually hadn't checked Live's video features at all. However, I'm really only interested in the Session View, because if I wanted to work in an arrangement-like view, I could just as well stick to Cubase or Sibelius or something. The arrangement view, is in a sense, not very "live" at all.
I tried dragging an image onto a session view slot, but Live just said: "Video can only be displayed by video clips in the Arrangement View. Video clips in the Session View are treated like audio clips." I don't understand why such a limitation has been made. Why couldn't I have video in Session View just as well? A clip is a clip, right...? Live doesn't seem to have any problems with multiple video clips playing at the same time in the arrangement view, so that can't be the reason.

Re: How do you handle notation for your Live sets?(session view)
Live can only play one video clip at a time; it plays the bottommost active track. I don't know what the reason for the restriction is, but I can imagine that Live might fetch and decode the video ahead of the playhead, so if you jump suddenly from clip to clip it would need a moment to catch up. The audio buffer isn't relevant, and probably isn't sufficient, as a latency on the video side.

Hi,
Does this hack still work with 8.2.6, please? I cannot see the lesson fire up.

Got it. It is under the Lesson folder in user profile.....for Vista, that is.
That is...
C:\Users\USER_NAME\Documents\Ableton\Library\Lessons\BLAH
Follow the LESSON and CATEGORY structure. Make a copy of one of the lessons, hack step by step.
VERY NICE!!!!!

I have a nice little notebook I use but naming clips, using the text and lesson hack it all works well enough for me.
