any good tutorials on progressive psychedelic trance?
any good tutorials on progressive psychedelic trance?
hi.. trying to make progressive psychedelic trance but can`t get any further then making a bassline, kick, and cymbals before my creativity almost stops..Because i don`t know what to do next..
trying to make some acid sounds etc,but are never happy with how it sounds.. don`t really know how to structure the song.I`v been told Progressive psy trance is all about question and answers. But how do one make the question answer too follow etc the song or fit the rhythm or to get it to sound like it belongs?..any guidelines tips, and tricks would be appreciated or maybe even some good courses.Have watched tons of tutorials and tried out many different tips, but still cant figure out what to do..it is something

Re: any good tutorials on progressive psychedelic trance?
The most general answer to the question as you put it is to try imitating first. See if you can put together a copy, using your daw tools, of a tune that you like. This will teach you a lot of tricks which you can later use in your own original material.
Listen to other tunes. Figure out what it is you like about the tunes you like. Try to capture and build on that.
If you still think it lacks something, post up what you've done and ask other producers for feedback.

Sounds like a good tip,but then comes the trouble to copy the tune. It`s hard to just copy a song just by hearing it.I can see myself stuck at how to make a specific sound, sfx, lead etc..I don`t know where to begin. But off course i need to try, regardless i will learn something on the way .
I really like neelix, symphonix etc , melodic progressive psy trance.

That's where online forums come in. Put up a post saying "how do you make the sound at 2:38 in this tune" along with a link to youtube. Helpful responses hopefully follow!
Re: any good tutorials on progressive psychedelic trance?
yeah, post up some examples.
I like to fancy myself a psy producer. alot of it is just experimentation. really start to stretch yourself outside of the normal procedures.
it sounds like you understand the basic structure though.
alot of it is playing around with synthesis. just tweak knobs untill you get a weird sound.
2 things that have worked for me in the past are trying to interprate your surroundings or a scene.
this is my interpretation of a ferry crossing at night from a foggy newfoundland back home to NS.
http://soundcloud.com/dartmouthian/ferr ... gh-the-fog
and, getting really really baked and fiddling with operator/other synths, create a bunch of sounds, save the project, and come back to it the next evening in a clearer mindset to actually write your track out. macro's are also your freinds. link multiple things to a macro, and do some wankery.
mangling samples is also always advisable.

lc0 are you a musician? Do you actually play anything?
It sounds to me as if you don't know very much about music, if you're stuck before you've started.

The tutorial below is a really good tutorial on the basics of a psy-trance bassline. It hits on how to do the drums and a few other things as well:

So if you think the answer to those questions is "no", where would you advise the OP to start?102455 wrote:lc0 are you a musician? Do you actually play anything?

Re: any good tutorials on progressive psychedelic trance?
After you've spent years messing around aimlessly making noise, you get to the point where you kind of know what notes sound good together. At this point you can now call yourself a musician. Then and only then should you consider lessons or tutorials. Oh I see, you should wait until you're so fed up with bad results that you don't want to make music any more before getting some help. Makes sense. Sorry, my bad
Re: any good tutorials on progressive psychedelic trance?
i`m a learner in progress with love for a lot electronic music genres all my life.. that`s enough for me to try start and make music..
i guess 102455 and andydes are mucical geniuses and was born as musician, then i can understand it is hard for them to answer like normal people.I guess you people did not learn to play your instrument without help either.
Here is on track i`ve put on a forum to get some guidlines what to do and what i`m doing wrong etc.
http://soundcloud.com/bananskrell/shr00magain a(t least the bassline wasen`t far off a psy track)
I`m working on a new project now and saved that for later though,it`s a bad habit of mine to begin with a new track when i am not happy with the one i made, but off course the new on always becomes better ..
btw thanks the others for useful information
nice tune stonee

Wouldn't it have been easier to just say no, you're not a musician?lc0 wrote:i`m a learner in progress with love for a lot electronic music genres all my life.. that`s enough for me to try start and make music..
I can't play anything in the true sense, but I do know enough about music theory to put a tune together.
That's the key here (and the chords).
From your post, I got the impression that you had little or no musical knowledge or ability.
If you had, then (in my opinion) it shouldn't be hard to progress beyond a bassline and some drums.
