Audio interface with phantom power for iPad?

Post by 4.33 » Fri Apr 20, 2012 1:11 pm

i'm quite a loud singer, but the walls in my apartment are paper-thin, so I'd like to be able to grab an iPad, get in a car (nice vocal booth!) and record vocals via a nice condenser microphone.

But here's a catch, actually two of them:
- which interfaces do not require drivers and still can are recognized by iPad?
- phantom power actually relies on power, so is there an interface that takes a sufficient amount of power from iPad itself?

Came across Apogee One, should do the job, but wonder if there are any alternatives?

You can take a look at Tascam's options for iOS including Iphone, Ipad, even Ipod...

This one specifically has Phantom power

and the price is not bad

still, it seems ixz still needs wall power to utilize phantom power, but it works on batteries, so can be a solution

I would suspect most solutions need external power.
I spotted this cheaply option recently

I was considering it purely for podcasting purposes, where it's limitations would be less exposed.

You can buy a power inverter for the car to convert the 12volt to house current to run whatever you want if you will be in a car. They don't cost much.

However the acoustics of a car are probably one of the worst places I could imagine.

^ nice one!

well, the car acoustics should be far better than in untreated room, especially when using a cardioid condenser

oughta give it a try anyway

thanks!

The Tascam ixz does not need wall power as it has batteries. I don't know if its a battery eater but the unit looks great and does what 4.33 wants.
