What controller to use? Please help

Hello,

I am very new to ableton, so I hope I use the right terms in my question. I will use the term tracks for the vertical 'lines' and slot for the horizontal. Here it goes:

I want to use Ableton to record my online radioshow/podcast. What I want to do is the following: I will make two audiotracks and load the music in them. In this way I can fade a song in audiotrack 1, over into audio track 2. When the song in track 2 is finished. I will go to slot 2, of audio track 1 and start that new song and so on....

I also want to create a few audiotracks and put jingles on the different slots. I want to use the jingles randomly, so not use the jingle in slot 1, when I'm playing audio from that slot.

Here's the deal. I want to do this with a controller. I know that the Akai apc's are really perfect for this job. With this one you can choose which track in which slot you want to start. But, it is pretty expansive for me. And I don't know if this hobby will last for a long time.

So I'm looking for a cheaper solution to my problem. I'm thinking about buying a Korg Nano control. But I have one crucial question. The Korg has got faders and buttons which (according to tutorials on youtube) can be assigned to trigger slots. So this will do the job. But what I wanted to know is if you can only control one slot at a time. So that if you want to start the first audiotrack in track one, can you only start slot 1 in audiotrack 2 as well? or is it possible to select different slots on different tracks with your mouse, so that you can start different slots on different tracks.

I really hope someone understands my question :S

So my bad if this dont answer ur question i just wanted to add input/ but ya controller would def be awsome to use for what u wanna do. i dont have any experience on the kind ur wanting but i myself do have the apc20 witch is cheaper then the apc40 but def still is such an awsome controller and the possibilites are endless!!! price aint toooo bad and can usually get on sale someplaces. just believe the hobby will last cause if it does in the future the apc will def pay off!

If you get the nanokontrol pictured in your post (i.e. the first generation one) you can buy this script for $20, note that it will only work with 1st generation nanos (which are cheaper, obviously):

which will do what you want, and more. basically, you can select clip launch mode by pressing a button combination, and you will get a little yellow box 2 scenes high and 8 wide on your session view screen, which you can use another button combo to navigate around in your set with, and launch clips with access to 2 rows at a time all the way through your set. The only drawback (and strength) is that it is set up to control so much stuff that you'll probably have to label all the functions on your controller, as well as take some time to get used to how it all works together.

I use a launchpad, and a nanokontrol, both running nativekontrol scripts... and a bunch of other stuff, but for clip launching and mixer, mostly those two. However, if you're looking for a low cost solution, you could get that nano, and if you decide later that you are getting into it enough to justify spending more, you could pad it out with a Launchpad. (make note however that this will not integrate quite as seamlessly as an APC, and doesn't have endless rotaries, so you'd have to rely on pickup takeover when switching device focus). More lightweight and compact though!
