Someone spending hours to "produce" a high-quality "product" that creates sound or allows sound to go through it which millions of people have rendered permanently into music and also made quite a profit from that music is tangible.

Work does not have physical location. I can do work stacking shelves at a store, but after the work is done and I go home, where is the work? can we point at it or pick it up? It is a concept, a memory. So now: do I get paid for stacking shelves or not?
Piracy is slavery.

I like it.

jeez you guys can really miss the whole point of something and totally fuck a post up cant ya

the point of this is, some guy admitted in an interview that he USED (not pirated but USED) pirated software.
the software dev finds out and writes up a whole rant about taking the high road.
towards the end of the rant the software dev threatens to black ball him from the music industry .
its fucking comical!
one guy says " me did a bad thing, im sorry"
the other guy says " you did do a bad thing and i don't except your apology, being the nice guy that i am i will take the high road and not turn you in, instead im going to shoot you in the face."

Well "shoot you in the face" is one way of saying it. Another would be (AD guy to Yacht guy)" I think your being a dick, I'm going to tell my mates that your a dick. Unlucky for you my mates all work in the industry your trying to progress in, which is a people industry and hostile to people who habitually act the like dicks'. I know I'm watering it down but you ramped it up so I think it works out.

^ it' all about balance
Angstrom wrote:A more accurate conceptual parallel is in the form of Money, which is not really pieces of paper but a concept represented in various forms. Ask yourself ... What are economic pitfalls of rampant counterfeiting of money?
There is no "theft" as any original pieces of paper (notes) are still where they were, but now some copies are available. So is counterfeiting any problem at all?

also, riddle me this:
Why do comedians get angry when someone "steals" their jokes? Surely everyone could tell the same joke?
right?
hmmmm... maybe we should copy some money and spend it on getting drunk and boning clones that tell regurgitated jokes while we think about this some more...

It could backfire on the AD guy though. Certainly not all of his industry buddies will be impressed with him spouting off threats and getting them involved.

You start a thread like this and there's an automatic pro-piracy vs. anti-piracy debate going to happen.

You also have to come to terms with the possibility that some people may not a give a fuck about what your actual point was, especially in The Lounge.
