Man, I just can't take sides in this. There needs to be a villain and a hero.

the point of this is, some guy admitted in an interview that he USED (not pirated but USED) pirated software.
the software dev finds out and writes up a whole rant about taking the high road.
towards the end of the rant the software dev threatens to black ball him from the music industry .
its fucking comical!
one guy says " me did a bad thing, im sorry"
the other guy says " you did do a bad thing and i don't except your apology, being the nice guy that i am i will take the high road and not turn you in, instead im going to shoot you in the face."
Well "shoot you in the face" is one way of saying it. Another would be (AD guy to Yacht guy)" I think your being a dick, I'm going to tell my mates that your a dick. Unlucky for you my mates all work in the industry your trying to progress in, which is a people industry and hostile to people who habitually act the like dicks'. I know I'm watering it down but you ramped it up so I think it works out.
It could backfire on the AD guy though. Certainly not all of his industry buddies will be impressed with him spouting off threats and getting them involved.
Yeah I could see that happening alright. And a fan of Yacht working at Vimeo closed the Audio Damage Account? (allegedly) Jesus christ what next? Myspace refusing to display Youtube links because Youtube execs went to the cinema after school without asking fucking Tom?

Right. Something like that.

Or, AD guy tells concert promoter buddy to not book YACHT. In retaliation, James Murphy doesn't work with said concert promoter who misses out on larger return from LCD SS reunion tour (or other DFA concerts).

And in turn, Live Nation, or whoever, decides to not work with DFA because of their decision to not work with concert promoter because of his decision to not work with YACHT because AD guy threw a fit and got his industry buddies involved.

And so on and so on.

Then somebody says something about somebodies mother, fistfights spill into the streets. When the police can do no more and the military get involved, the UN calls for sanctions but certain elements within government suggest the EMP from a nuclear strike to take out communications. In the insanity and rush not to appear weak the desperate plan is approved and the inevitable counter strikes ensue.

And all because AD has inadequate piracy protection...

I wish more mfrs would err on the side of weaker protection because strong protection only penalizes the actual customers. Even soft protection can be a hassle...I've never liked the schemes NI and IK use and Steinberg is just anal, can't even run a demo without a dongle?

Service Center is way worse than the IK stuff. IK's thing runs very quickly, and I hardly notice it. But I can honestly say, "i can not stand Service Center by NI." I like the key file thing.. Ableton, Reaper, Renoise? Actually, I'm not sure how Renoise does its protect... But out of all the protections, "key file," is easiest on the end user, imo...

As far as the thread is concerned... I'm on the side of Audio Damage.. Kinda sorta. First off, I've never heard of this musician. Second.. Why kind of person, uses a pirated $40 plug in... I mean.. Its not like AD is greedy... Come on? How many $200 compressors or eq's are there, and I'm not talking bundle. I don't own any audio damage.. They look cool.. But maybe in the future I will demo and check em out, or whatever.. I know, they don't have demos, or whatever...

But still.. Kinda sad, to pirate software, of some guys, who are reasonably priced. Giving people good deals and all... Kinda sad, to pirate software in general, but you know what I mean.

Anyways, its important to buy all our music supplies. A: Because its right. B: Because it works. Its stable. It has customer support, etc, etc..
Linear Phase has left the building..

I had no idea what the Yacht band is, or it's star. What I found did not increase any interest in ever hearing what the "music" might be like.

Looks like the controversy is nothing else as clash of 2 internet nut cases. The Yacht chap in unquestionably Vollidiot but the response of the AD man is out of any line.

Does all this piracy make me a bad person?

For video I use Final Cut Pro, Apple Motion, Adobe Flash, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

For making websites I use Photoshop, Coda, and Transmit.

For making prints I use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

For downloading “files” I use Unison, Transmission, binsearch, and PizzaTorrent.
...dude seems like a total ass. Depending on my mood, I can sometimes see justifications for pirating to demo, as a hobbiest, etc. but in this case it all comes down to karma. Why would I ever pay money for his music after reading this interview?

But then he does come out with grounded winning statements like this
I am a being of light and darkness. I deliver vibrations with my person and computers. My body is based in the Pacific Northwest of the United States of America, but through the internet I am universal.

CE: It’s good that it happened, in a way, because everyone who makes music on computers makes music with pirated software.

QRO: Were the commenters from Audio Damage?

JB: It was mostly from them. They were awful; they were terrible, awful people. Very sexist, homophobic, and awful. Really mean-spirited people.
From here http://www.qromag.com/interviews/interv ... _part_two/

Homophobic? Sexist? am I missing something from the original blog post by AD or were there others, oh the drama
