8 bit 11khz? help on exporting in this fashion

Post by shaneyshaneshanemcshabadooskee » Tue Apr 24, 2012 3:53 pm

Can someone tell me how to export my tune at 8 bit/ 11khz using ableton 8, you can pm if you want to keep it real downlow. but it seems my only options are 16-32 bit and none of the sample rates i can choose from are 11khz, is there something I am missing, I want my songs to sound exactly the same as when they are being played by ableton and when they are being played in itunes.I usually exported at what I believed was highest quality 32 bit, 192 htz, but I have read that 8 bit is the way to go, so I would like to try that, but I cant seem to find the option for it. can someone help me? thanks

Not sure how you'd go about that....

But I'm a little curious as to why you'd want to export at a quality that low? Unless you're going for a really lo-fi crunchy kinda vibe?

ive been readin on a few posts that it is a production secret,

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=139872

in the link above, member andrew brewer mentioned this
andrewbrewer wrote:yeah for the crispness i'd recommend 11 khz / 8 bit (its a production secret, so keep it on the down low)
and member Bulo says the same thing

Ableton can not export at those settings.
Maybe the free Audacity audio editor can do it....

"They seem to not want everyone to know" yet they published that technique on the internet?
Production secret.... They're so full of shit imo....

Anyway, if you want that sound you could always try Toneboosters Freeware TB TimeMachine: http://www.toneboosters.com/tb-timemachine/

is this a serious question?
redux set to 8 bit and downsample to the number that divides your sample rate to 11khz (in case 44 this is 4 i can tell you)

don't know if troll or troll Oo
Anyway, grab an atari st or commodore 64, you won't need fancy plugs to reduce your bit / sample rate ^^

Yeah for the crispness you have to print an image of your waveform to a dot matrix printer and draw the waveform back in by hand with an audio editor that has pencil draw.

i'm pretty sure he means that Mario just jumped or Mario got a coin sound.

he could mean that crisp like when Pac-Man dies or when Oolong gets smacked by Pole, Star or Nuncha sound, but you never can tell how inference will play out on the web.

"They" were joking of course.

This whole time everyone's been thinking "This guy is kidding, right? Just carrying on the joke. Trolling maybe? He has to be kidding..."

I don't think he's kidding.

No one is actually exporting their Ableton tracks to 8 bit. If you really desire to hear what it sounds like just render your track at one of the bit depth and sample rates that Ableton does support and then open it in any normal sound editor program. You should be able to convert the rendered file to 8/11 and find out that it sounds pretty much like the original track did, except slightly shittier.

Move along folks, there's nothing worth hearing here.
