Please Help *Ableton Keeps Crashing on Startup* VST Scan

Post by Bee Dub » Tue May 01, 2012 9:58 am

I accidentally installed a PC version of a VST and now every time I load up Live it crashes and won't get past the scan screen. It is attempted to load the VST's on the VST scan when Live starts, however due to the programs now being proper format they are not allowing live to open.

I am unable to open live to access Preferences to disable the VST scan and I can't seem to find the VST folder on my Mac to remove them entirely from the computer.

Really need some help here as I am unable to use my Ableton at all and the VST scan keeps happening every time I open live resulting in an immediate crash.

If anyone knows anything about preventing this from happening I would be in your debt.

/facepalm

I paid $300 and now I can't even open my program..

Do I uninstall Live and reinstall or will the problem repeat?

The plugins directory is most likely /Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

yeah, that filepath shown above is where your plug-ins will be, if you were using finder to try to locate them, you should know that anything in your library folder is unsearchable, so you have to know the filepaths to find things in there. Un/Re-installing Live will make absolutely no difference, because the issue is with the vst's in that folder, which are not application-specific resources, so when you re-install, it's just going to scan that folder again, and then crash when it hits the bad vst.
