Putting Visuals Together
Putting Visuals Together
Hi, I am planning a show in the school that I work in. I have performed a number of times and it generally goes well but I would like to make it a little more extravagant.
To do this I plan have some visuals triggered with the music. I have googled VJ software and come across some stuff, but, as with all things new, some of it is over my head and I thought I'd come here to get the jump on it.
So, what I would like to get is some software that can display tempo synched stuff, triggered by my apc40, maybe by the clip buttons at the same time as launching the clip. Some inbuilt effects to make the visuals cooler and also user friendly. Some stuff I have seen looks like I would be playing battle ships with coordinates and such like.
So, summary:
* Easy to use
* Synched to beat
* Triggered by APC40
* Good effects
* CHEAP
Cheers,
Adam

We're in the same situation! I'm trying to find an elegant way to trigger video clips and effects using midi clips within Live. It's love love love it if Ableton added robust video functionality in the next release, even as a paid add-on like Operator or something.
In the meantime, I've been using TouchVIZ running on an iPad 2. It has some MIDI integration but the effects and controls are a bit limited, and you'll have to buy an HDMI adapter or something. Still, it's cheap if you have an iPad and it's nice having something separate from Live. The problem is that the current version doesn't have any audio reactive effects, but you could probably ork around this with some creative MIDI routing.
I've also been experimenting with the demo of Just Add Music which is external software that syncs with Live. It has robust MIDI and clip playback control, and a ton of effects. Pretty slick, but also kind of expensive.

If you have a Mac, VDMX is probably my favorite for doing stuff synced from Live.

Read the link I posted that walks through what does and doesn't work about MaxMSPJitter in Max for Live.

Ok cool. Actually, you were totally spot on with the Touch Designer. I think that is totally what I was looking for. Thanks again, cheerstempus3r wrote:https://twitter.com/synnack/status/199112239859507200
