Windows 8 - anyone tested it?
Windows 8 - anyone tested it?
Couldn't find anything by google or forum search so...
Has anybody tested Live 8 (or 9 beta, who knows =p) with Windows 8 consumer preview?
For other daws (e.g. sonar x1 : http://blog.cakewalk.com/sonar-x1-on-wi ... r-preview/)
it seems to provide better performances overall.
And as a student, i can try it freely, but I'd hate to format everything if it is very buggy after that (only have a 120gb main hard disk so no room for dual boot).
Thank you all!

Re: Windows 8 - anyone tested it?
I'm a little surprised by the Sonar results, but this is something that may well vary by DAW. (For one thing Sonar is 64-bit, yeah?) I might actually try it for curiosity's sake, though. For other applications I haven't seen any performance improvements. It starts up quicker than Win 7, but doesn't really seem any leaner.
I will say this, though. I switched from Mac to PC eleven years ago, when Win XP was significantly better than Mac OS 9. But if Win 8 is the direction Microsoft is taking their OS, I'll probably be a Mac user again pretty soon. I'm already making sure to download and archive the Mac versions of VSTs I buy.

Re: Windows 8 - anyone tested it?
I've been using the win8 CP since it came out and have had no problems what so ever although i had very few crashes/bugs with Live 8 in general. I went from xp to windows 8 so i can't compare my sets to windows 7 but i notice a dramatic difference in my laptops cpu when using windows 8, roughly 30-50% lighter. If your worried about windows 8 being buggy wait until the release candidate gets released at the start of june.
Only problem i have had since installing windows 8 is my built in webcam (logitech) kept crashing my laptop whenever i plugged in my xone 2d. Had this problem in xp also but requires changing the logitech driver lower filter in the registry and its all good now. Although i didn't back up my custom mappings for my controllers when i upgraded and have lost the lot.
I'm looking forward to trying it on a tablet, does anyone know if anyone has started making any apps for Live and windows 8? One thing i havn't read about windows 8 yet is can the metro/winRT apps communicate with win32 programs i.e. could a Lemur/Touchable style of app control live directly on an intel tablet?

using win8 cp for 2 months now... smooth sailing ! (not much different to win7 btw)

Re: Windows 8 - anyone tested it?
Okay, thanks for your answers ^^
Anther question : I am an IT student, hence I've got access to the MSDNAA program (free & legal Windows \o/).
If I install 8's pre-release now, will I be able to smoothly upgrade to the "final" version when it's released? Or will I have to undergo some kind of reinstallation? (it litterally takes ages on my computer (e.g. windows 7 : 5 hours...) because of some SSD raid0 bullshit... but after installation it's darn fast ^_^)

This may be late notice, but I've been using the latest 32-bit Live 8 release with Win 8 64-bit for a while without a hitch.

Re: Windows 8 - anyone tested it?
The only thing I've ever seen anyone complain about with win8 is the metro interface/apps.
Those are unrelated to Live, and Win8 handles Live just as good or better than any other Win version.
People are always whiny with new shit.

No need to click 'start' to turn off.
No accidental pressing shut down button any more.
Solid change comparing to previous awkward manner whatever it is called.

Re: Windows 8 - anyone tested it?
Yes. Personally, I have zero problems with metro. I am just aware that other people's complaints are pretty much with that specifically. Never performance.
When I shut down I Win+D, Alt+F4 anyway
And rarely use a mouse with Start on any of the Win OS's.
