Need a delay....what's the dealy?
Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
I dunno, you guys who say you only need the Ableton plugs, you're hearing something different from me.....i find them very basic and lacking in features. Sure if you want to get fancy you can set up some interesting things, but i'd rather just go straight to the serious tools like Massive, Zebra or Fabfilter etc.
Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
I love Live's delays. I use them all the time.
Other delay plugs can offer very different outcomes......

silly.. what makes you think/say those plugs are more "serious tools"...Mr D wrote:I dunno, you guys who say you only need the Ableton plugs, you're hearing something different from me.....i find them very basic and lacking in features. This is basically the same discussion as women have about clothes..
Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
C'mon guys, is anybody seriously trying to suggest that Live's delay plugs are any match for Echoboy or RP?........have you actually spent any time with those plugs?

Does this delay make my arse look too big ?...........Rabalder wrote:This is basically the same discussion as women have about clothes..

Don't go this route If you say anything bad about Live, the fanboys will just start flaming as it is the main thing they do anyway on this forum.Mr D wrote:C'mon guys, is anybody seriously trying to suggest that Live's delay plugs are any match for Echoboy or RP?........have you actually spent any time with those plugs?
Regarding RP-Delay, just contact Rob Papen about it. He's a very nice guy (I've met him a few times and saw some lectures/masterclasses of him. He's Dutch like me) that often listens to his users. He usually is an active replier to user request or bug reporters etc. That doesn't mean he'll fix it right away as he's quite busy with his new Blade synth at the moment. But still, one can always try.
Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
it's not a fanboy thing.. the fx are good enough .. I use a lot of 3rd party stuff.. but more as supplements
while I agree some devices need to be expanded...Lives' core stuff get used a ton over here... and I like other tools as well.
there's no contrast there.. I don't think Lives' devices fall short.. on the contrary..they're top notch and very useful.
they're also very stable and cpu friendly... and most of them for what they do... they do it quite well..
and I agree some can still be improved
tell me what the RP-delay does and I'm quite certain I can achieve it with Live... although RP-Delay does look very nice and the price is right !
echoboy is a great delay plugin.. but hardly worth the $..
the H-delay that comes with the Waves bundles is quite similar.
I also like some of the delays in GuitarRig/GTR3 M4L pluggos and Reaktor...
also some nice free stuff to consider in all shapes forms and colors:

Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
Wow.. The thread fell off a cliff. Meanwhile, I don't like the sound quality of anything Fab Filter, or U-He, and would rather use native plugs. Although as far as synths go, I really like the Cakewalk stuff.
When talking about native delay vs 3rd party delay, or native reverb vs 3rd party reverb, it all comes down to mix, and style of music.
If I were going to mix Rihanna, I'd have the best reverb possible on her voice because.. She needs it, lol. But her voice, is the whole track. IMO.. Her latest track has a very cheezy 303 in it.
Making my own music.. I'm not using a lot of 3rd party delay. I am for compression though. And 3rd party synths for sure. And I like PSP Audioware stuff a lot. A great choice for a 3rd party delay imo.. Although, I don't own it yet myself... um.. I'm sure it sounds warm.
Furthermore! I'd still do Rihanna. I don't care how much reverb her voice needs, or even that I'd have to spend extra cash on the right verb, cause native wont suffice.

Linear Phase has left the building..

A dealy is mainly used by those making tarnce.
Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
ableton ping pong delay.
i love it.

Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
TAL-Dub is great and free. Valhalla FreqEcho is also brilliant. And free.
Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
I use Ableton delays but the basic sound coming from Fabfilter Timeless is definitely different. To my ears it sounds much richer and smooth. I'm still learning how to use it but I definitely like it.
I do agree that the focus should be using as much native stuff as possible though. The more 3rd party software, the more potential for headaches.

Re: Need a delay....what's the dealy?
The biggest downside of that for me personally is that it's not possible to detach Live's plugins from the interface. Switching to a different track causes the loss of focus of plugins in other tracks.William wrote:I do agree that the focus should be using as much native stuff as possible though
Again, it's personal but I like to leave some plugins open instead of having to switch everytime I want to adjust something. Secondary/Multiple display support is non existant when it comes to Live.
Just like mixing in Live, pressing tab to see a more detailed 'mixer' everytime, aaahhh.
