Well obviously there are two kinds of delays :
- basic delays, which are all "digitally" equivalent, (e.g. "buffer data and copy it n dB quieter after t milliseconds while feedbacking z dB") meaning that with good settings you could possibly null them. I think Ableton's is that kind, it's "digital" (and works very well for a lot of situation.
Howver, if anyone there opened things like H-echo or echoboy like you said later..
=> feature-wise, I don't know of any chorus integrated into "Filter delay" or "ping-pong dalay", and I couldn't go about echoboy's features, just countless.
=> sound-wise these plugins try to emulate some analog sound, by filtrating, adding noise and hum, and doing alot of other things.
They'll give color to your mix =)

heres one i picked up recently

i know i know, behringer, but its a surprisingly good sounding pedal - and for 40 bucks.. stereo.. and ive got some really good strange sounds out of it, using it as an external effect.
