Well as a Londoner with friends in the midst of these atrocities, I am as anti-Bush/Blair as I was yesterday. Being opposed to the terrorists doesn't make me side with (those who I perceive to be) other aggressors.

Don't let Al Quaida inform your opinion of Islam any more than you let your opinion of Christians be informed by Christian extremists (who say "thou shalt not kill", but are happy to insist on the death penalty and murder abortionists; who say "love thy neighbour as thyself" but preach intolerance for gays, Muslims, etc.).

Any Muslims or Christians who follow the word of God are against such actions.

The attacks in London were indiscriminate. They were not attacks by Muslims on Christians, they were attacks by terrorists on the free world.

As Ken Livingstone (Mayor of London) put it:
London Mayor Ken Livingstone said the blasts that ripped through his city Thursday were "mass murder'' carried out by terrorists bent on "indiscriminate ... slaughter.''

Livingstone, in Singapore where he supported London's successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics, was rushing back to London after the simultaneous blasts in London's subway network and a double-decker bus, causing deaths and hundreds of injuries.

"I want to say one thing: This was not a terrorist attack against the mighty or the powerful, it is not aimed at presidents or prime ministers, it was aimed at ordinary working-class Londoners,'' Livingstone told reporters.

"That isn't an ideology, it isn't even a perverted faith, it's mass murder,'' Livingstone said. "We know what the objective is. They seek to divide London.''

A group calling itself "The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe'' claimed responsibility for the blasts in an Internet posting, saying they were in retaliation for Britain's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

News of the blasts sent jubilation at London's successful bid for the 2012 Games plummeting less than 24 hours after the International Olympic Committee's vote.

Livingstone said the attack was aimed at ordinary Londoners.

"Black and white, Muslim and Christian, Hindus and Jews, young and old,'' he said. It was an "indiscriminate attempt to slaughter irrespective of any considerations for age, class, religion - whatever.''

Livingstone said he was being kept informed of developments in London via a communications team set up in case an emergency occurred when he was out of the city.

"I have no doubt whatsoever that this is a terrorist attack,'' he said.
and

I know that you personally do not fear to give your own life in exchange for taking others. That is why you are so dangerous. But I know you do fear that you will fail in your long-term objective to destroy our free society. I can show you why you will fail. In the days that follow, look at our airports, look at our seaports and look at our railway stations. And even after your cowardly attack you will see that people from the rest of Britain, people from around the world will arrive in London to become Londoners, to fulfil their dreams and achieve their potential. They choose to come to London as many have come before because they come to be free. They come to live the life they choose, they come to be themselves. They flee you, because you tell them how they should live.

May the full force of the West come down like a sledgehammer..

I for one wholeheartedly support whatever it takes to stop the brutal indiscriminate maiming and killing of innocent people by the evil, twisted perpetrators of terrorism.

Even when it means brutal indiscriminate maiming and killing of innocent people who happen to live in,say,Afganistan and Iraq? Like the US and Britain have already been doing for the past few years?
Feel safer yet?

Sorry but it is this kind of attitude that brings about events such as today's.
The atrocities in Irag and Afganistan (amongst others) perpetrated by the west because of a minority of extremists is as bad if not worse.

Love and strength to all those affected.

The world's most powerful leaders got down to talks in Gleneagles, Scotland, on aid to Africa and climate change but the meeting was brutally overshadowed by a co-ordinated terrorist attack on London.
How convenient. I question these so called "terrorist" attacks.

I would agree if there were some way of weeding out the PERPETRATORS of atrocities and stopping them in their tracks (not just those unlucky enough to be associated with them).

However, this crazy witch-hunt of picking a random dictator who's methods we don't appprove of (in some cases ARGUABLY rightly so), associating him with international terrorism purely by heresay and then eliminating him AND HIS PEOPLE is frankly distressing.

But yes, it's been argued a million times before so I'm going to attempt to ignore this thread and say no more on the matter.

Condolences to all those involved in today's London events.

for those that think this is about Iraq and Afghanistan, remember that 9/11 took place before the U.S. removed Saddam and the Taliban.

This is ongoing struggle that started back over 10 years ago.

That being said: My heart and support goes out to all those affected by this tragic attack.

I find these sorts of conspiracy theories absolutely ridiculous. If ANYBODY has a solid motive to disrupt G8 support to combat poverty in Africa, it's Al Qaeda.

Think about it;

Poor starving African muslims are an excellent recruiting base. Impoverished, unstable Africa is an excellent place to hide and train. If the attacks were intendet to disrupt G8 support to Africa, I would say this reinforces the notion that Al Qaeda (or other muslim extremists) are at work, not the governments of the west.

Pharoh, you really need to think a little more...

Londoners - You guys are tough. You survived the Blitz and came through battered but in high spirits. You'll survive this. I offer my respect, admiration and condolences.

Yes, it's weak this happened

I hope Carl Cox is OK (hopefully he was in a villa in Ibiza chillin' after a marathon set @ Space with an Amazing Up for it crowd that kept given back every once of energy he gave them - points finger in the air)

but in all seriousness - I think this put me over the edge. I'm leaving this country - moving somewhere in central or South America - terrorist don't care about them
