Upgraded to 10.7.4, same results.
Plugged in my nio 2 4 audio box and now i get results closer to running win 7 (31 percent on osx vs 28 percent on win 7)

I only have ableton installed on the mac partition and am not running any vsts.

The 10.7.4 upgrade has stopped the cursor from contantly turning into a beach ball though!

I only use the macbook for gigs - if I run OSX I have to take a sound interface + a USB hub for my midi controller + mouse
I was hoping to minimise my gear so I can carry more clothes/deodorant and less computer gear on planes!

Just an aside, people are mixed about Lion, some are getting good results others are not. It's probably due to compatibility issues, but one thing is clear, your situation is by far the worst case scenario around. Nobody but you is experiencing such a total and complete lack of CPU power under Lion, some say they get a CPU hit from Lion for sure, but nothing like what you report.
So it's up to you to figure out why your system is experiencing a worse situation than others. You're reporting more or less identical CPU scores in the performance test to my 5 year old laptop. Your i5 2.4ghz should be twice as fast as my Core 2 Duo, and is under Windows 7. My initial suspicion is you're inadvertently running Live or your drivers or some other part in the equation in 64 bit mode up against Live's 32 bit app. Something seems to be amiss in your system, and you can either complain about it or figure out what's going wrong, because I don't entirely think this is a Lion issue per say as much as a quirk you need to solve.

Lol at Snow Lion, that's your problem! you're trying to install an OS that doesn't exist! :x

maybe, but I'm running my macbook straight out of the box, with only ableton installed. No vsts, no extra drivers.

Well the one major difference in OSX vs Windows is that Windows has separate installs for 32 and 64 bit versions of applications, OS etc. so even if you're using only Live, (no audio card?) it's possible that Lion defaults Live into some screwed up halfway point. I know that in Snow Leopard when you do "get info" on an application you'll see a check box in the panel labeled something like "Open as 32 bit app".

My off hand guess is it's something of his nature that's messing up your results in OSX, or you are using an adio card with 64 bit drivers etc.

Mountain lions are the preeminent predator of North America.
Also known as a "cougar", though not to be confused with a 40+ year old woman that goes after young men.

Joggers and mountain bikers are killed by mountain lions every now and then - children are at greater risk because they're of course easier prey.

If you come across one on a trail, spread your arms and scream at the top of your lungs to make yourself seem as large and intimidating as possible. Do not run from a mountain lion - that just makes you more fun to tackle.

FYI, bro.

Lion like Vista? WTF? I really like lion. Soooo much easier flipping between my different music apps with 4 finger swipes. Can have Live fullscreen and just swipe to get to my MOTU Cuemix interface, or other stuff instantly!

Sounds like you got a problem, but I'd never want to go back to SL now I've had Lion a while.
