AKAI! Whoever! Please develop Device Control!

Post by DCUPmusic » Wed May 16, 2012 12:36 am

Im a stickler for a a good controller.

Device Control is seamless. It just works.
You dont have to record arm the track like other controllers (Arturia Laboratory)

Which makes me wonder - Why the f* dont some controllers have more knobs?
Why dont plugin makers create their own hardware controllers utilising this protocol?

Why doesnt AKAI make a generic "synth" midi controller, with knobs and sliders everywhere (think of a layout like and access virus), that all map to device control?

I set up what i can with the APC 40, but flicking through banks of 8 knobs is pretty av, compared to tweaking a real synth.

Soft synths these days sound amazing, as good as the real thing.
But we need people to jump on this to BRIDGE THE GAP, ONCE AND FOR ALL

If anyone has a really good controller experience, for synths mainly, please share, im all ears

Because the price of all the knobs makes the controller so expensive that you might as well put a sound engine in as well

In a few more years we'll have touch control in all our software anyway.

I'm not sure whether I'm looking forward to full touchscreen control or not. In principle I think touch screen would be great, but I just can't help but think of the size of the screen necessary to have a lot of the little things easily accessed as well as the larger stuff like mixer faders and whatnot.

Hmmm...

As for TONS of controls, I have an old M-audio Keystation Pro 88 (64 knobs, a large number of buttons, and 9 sliders, and the whole zoning thing in case I need to double/triple/quadrouple that). I only bring it out if the Novation ReMOTE 61 SL just isn't enough, which for what I've been doing lately is rare. The problem with that keyboard as a source for tons of controls is that it weighs a ton. 57 pounds I think? Has a fully weighted hammer action 88 key keyboard attached to it. Hence why it's not always out.

I like physical controls. If there are more on a unit I usually like it more. They make me feel cooler than I actually am :) . How many, exactly, do you need, and is layout essential?

Having the track control encoders bankable is a nice way to do it. Which you can have via nativeKontrol.
