electronic dub bass sounds

Post by audiosophy » Mon May 21, 2012 3:34 pm

Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone had any specific ideas on how to achieve this sort of electronic dub bass sound?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ibv5yz-izY

I have tried using chorused triangle waves and square waves but I can't seem to nail it. I really admire the way the pulses of the synth sound absolutely huuge on a big system..

I am only using soft-synths and I have all the usual - Sylenth, Massive, etc

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Filtered square or Sawtooth. No chorus. On sub-style bass most effects just break up the attack and don't really help anything. You can also get equal or better results just using a fingered electric bass sound with a LP filter.
When you use sines and triangles which have little or no overtones to subtract you end up with sub and no definition the lower down the keyboard you play.

I don't know if you know about the Interruptor discussion board but its a good place to discuss all things dub.

at first I was thinking you were talking about a dubstep wobble bass.. but you're talking about real dub! Insane! I didn't even know about that message board posted above, thanks for that! Love it.
