iBleton?
iBleton?
Dear Ableton,
Have you considered a portable version of Ableton for the iPad? Perhaps it could be a simplified version of Ableton 8 Suite with 16 tracks (any combination of audio or midi), and a few basic instruments, like Simpler, Operator, and Impulse for example.
I have Ableton Suite 8.3 for my PC at home, and just recently purchased an iPad. I would definitely be interested in a "scratchpad" version of Ableton for the iPad... and willing to pay for the app as well =]
Any thoughts on this?
I wrote Ableton in Berlin, and they say they get a lot of requests for this, but wont disclose any future plans, which is understandable. They asked me to post this request to the forums, so that the developers can see my request as well. They also mentioned that Ableton is a powerful program... so I'm sure it probably would take a good processor to run everything. Still, I'm willing to compromise a little for even a basic version of Suite 8 for the iPad.

Buy a laptop.
Hope they will contentrate all their effort to update new features on live instead of creating useless apps, cause pros need USB, firewire to get the maximum of their art.
By the way iPad is just a great controller.

MacBook Pro - core i7 2,7GHz - 4Go DDR3 / OS X 10.9.4 / Motu ultralite mk3 / Ableton live 9.1.3 -> Reaper 4.72 -> Reason 5.0.1 / Komplete 8 / Amplitube 3.10 / MidiPipe 1.4.3 / MidiStroke 1.4
Re: iBleton?
I'm an ipad owner and yes I'm absolutely craving for an Ableton scratch pad, as you put it. A dosen drum machines and 5o odd instruments. basic effects and export into Ableton . This would be the holy grail for me. at the moment I'm using GB and Beatmaker, both great but I'm an Ableton man, and I want to be able to sketch out tracks on my ipoad then expand them on my PC.
I hope and I pray that they will do this !

Well said!!! And that's exactly how I feel about the idea. "iBleton" wouldn't have to be the full blown version... just enough to get a basic idea out. GarageBand for iPad has only 8 tracks... if "iBleton" had, lets say 16 tracks (any combo of midi and audio) plus Simpler, Impulse, and Operator, and a few basic effects... that would be all that I would need =]
Thank for the comments... I know some people are greatly opposed to the idea, but Ableton has told me that they get a lot of requests for the idea, but won't release any info about future plans. Like I say, I'm willing to pay for the app, if they provide it!
Cheers!

I don't know about a fully blown mobile version of Live. But I would like to see a controller app similar to the hype that died at http://www.MidiPad.de

Wrong. It's far more than that.llllll1111116 wrote:iPad is just a great controller.

It doesn't need to be the full version... just the basics... just enough to get the idea going. And if you have ever seen Tom Cosm in action, you know there are ways to get more out of Ableton that was never thought of when Ableton was created. As electronic musicians, we are all creative... And for some like myself who are mobile, this would be great application.JBlongz wrote:I don't know about a fully blown mobile version of Live. The iPad is not meant to replace a desktop, or high-end laptop. Sure, it lacks Firewire, but does have USB. There is a USB Camera Connection Kit that musicians have found works with some USB devices... in otherwords, there are ways to get things to work with the "limited" iPad. There are dedicated products that provide MIDI Input and Output as well as Audio Input (both Analog and Digital)) for the iPad. If Apple can make Garageband for the iPad, Ableton should be able to port a version of Ablenton to the iPad. And other software providers have made applications such as Music Studio, Akai Synth Station, and the iMS-20. So, yes, it is possible to have a decent "scratchpad" studio for the iPad.delicioso wrote:llllll1111116 wrote:pros need USB, firewire to get the maximum of their art.

Garageband is in Apple's Objective C. Ableton is built on python. Do you think they should spend time converting to Objective C in such depth? I think that will decrease focused man-power and further delay the schedule for Live releases. We're already 3 years in the air.
Re: iBleton?
Even better if it could work as a remote for ableton too
Re: iBleton?
iOS app doesn't have to mean using the same programming language or even the same developers. The FL Studio mobile app for example was made by a third party developer with pre-existing code from a different app (Xewton Music Studio) and it still does what it's meant to do and integrates with the desktop app.JBlongz wrote:Garageband is in Apple's Objective C. why not sell ableton to apple...
Re: iBleton?
They already bought Logic, look how long we're waiting for Logic 10. Apple not interested in Python apps.

Re: iBleton?
I have a 17" Macbook with a big SSD and a 1TB 5400rpm drive in that's light and I can take anywhere in the pocket of my rucksack. Spent all my money on that instead of iDevices. I have no desire to use something like an iPad - far less powerful and with less storage, that I'd have to balance on something and would have to save sets by syncing back to the computer etc.
On the other hand if I owned an iPad already and it was like a turbo version of iMaschine and it did online syncing via iCloud then maybe I I might find a good use for it. Especially if I travelled on trains and planes a lot.
So no, I'm personally not that interested. I never use the music apps on my phone much as I'm normally at home or somewhere I can take my laptop. I end up buying them but not using them. But maybe I could use it at some point in future. If it worked on iPhones that's be quite cool but then it'd be pretty limited I guess.
I find iMaschine suffers a bit too much from latency on my 3GS though.

Re: iBleton?
AFAIK Live is Written in C++. I thought they'd just prototyped a lot of it in Python to work out the design.JBlongz wrote: Garageband is in Apple's Objective C. Ableton is built on python.

<edit - or maybe it just runs python scripts or something, not prototyped with it, but it's written in C++>
