Ableton will not recognize any of my usb devices.

Post by zoominillicit » Wed May 30, 2012 4:19 am

I have inquired on this somewhat before but with little luck. I have an at2020 mic and a Casio ctk4000 keyboard, both usb devices. Ableton will not recognize them at all. Even in the input section of audio in preferences. The devices simply don't show up, but the computer itself recognizes the devices.. Please help!

Try shutting down your computer. Plug in the devices. Boot up your computer. Still not working? Then I can't help, but this usually works for USB recognition problems.

Thank you very much for answering my post! I've learned now, how to configure my asio driver to allow my mic. And keyboard is midi and so had to be turned on via sync menu in options>preferences. In order to save others some time with this I will try to explain what I know.
Using USB Microphones
1. Use ASIO driver to avoid latency
2. Set Your driver in Options>Preferences>Audio menu.
3. Select hardware setup(directly underneath the input type and settings) and make sure your microphone is selected and active by your driver.
4. Ableton may need to be restarted to analyze inputs and outputs.( in my experience ableton always needs to be restarted when switching between audio recording devices)
5. If your microphone records well for a time and then fails to record at a later time, even if you have restarted ableton, you may need to restart your computer.
**special note for your saftey** > and to prevent hearing loss, large speakers via output while usb mics are plugged in is VERY BAD! Avoid this at all costs!

Ya it pretty much sounded like a jet was taking off out of my basement. Maybe this was an obvious mistake to others. Lol but I learned the hard way. Nothing like trial and error. : ( Can anyone explain the science behind this.

Live is now recognizing my gear. Thanks for helping me out!
It was my own dumb fault. I read the manual for ableton.(what I could understand of it). But my big mistake was not reading the .pdf manual that came with the asio download. My answer was there. In the future, much troubleshooting will be done before whining in the forums. ; )
