Transmitting sound from Ableton to Max 6 via M4L
Transmitting sound from Ableton to Max 6 via M4L
Hello all,
Tried to look for this but I haven't found anything around.
I am preparing a multichannel audio installation and I would need to transmit sound from ableton to max 6 where my multichannel processing recides.
I have already tried soundflower (I am on OSX) and Jack OSX with average results but I was wondering if there is a way of using send~ and receive~ objects or any other clever way to do it without dealing with latency (in the exchange between ableton and max?
Any experience?
thank you
Bassik

You just have to accept that there is no solution without latency.
Re: Transmitting sound from Ableton to Max 6 via M4L
Hi,
thanks...no problem about latency.
Send~ and receive~ objects insert 1 vector size latency I know...
My issue is that I am having problems with Jack OSX that gives me cracks and audio dropouts...
Anyone used M4L to Max with more success?
Sharing a patch?

For me Soundflower works very well. I've also used AUNetSend/Receive with success.
M4L doesn't help since Max within Live and Max alone are considered as different apps.

Thanks Broc.
This is what I was looking for. M4L and MAx do not communicate each other in a direct way...what a shame...
Soundflower gives me problem as I am transferring 16 audio channels from Live to MAx, at low latency...but the result do not change if I change the samples number.
As the things stands Jack OSX is the best solution so far...will try AUNetSend/Receive...

Re: Transmitting sound from Ableton to Max 6 via M4L
Yes, I think that soundflower uses a fixed audio buffer of 512 samples.
Jack OSX is probably more flexible in this regard.
Note also that AUNetSend/Receive is primarily meant for simple semi-automatic connections.
I wouldn't recommend it for static and reliable multichannel installations.

Ok thanks...
I believe I should think about another solution if I cannot solve the Jack osx problem then.
Thank you for your help
