Fuck Bitwig.
Fuck Bitwig.
I was really excited when I saw the Bitwig preview videos the first of the year, but their silence has totally dampened my enthusiasm for their product.
People are talking like these assholes are going to save us from those filthy, perverted, money grubbing Ableton bastards. Why? Because the Abes are playing their cards close to the vest on Live 9? Pffft.
If you think a 1.0 version of anything is going to be more stable than a product that's been around for 11 years, well, put your money where your mouth is and take that shit on stage with you the day it releases.

I'll reserve my judgement of them for when a product is out to judge.
BTW They just announced that they're starting the public beta in two weeks, and apologized for the delay. Count me as one person who would like Ableton to announce something, anything at all about Live 9. I know that's not going to happen, just wish it would.

Re: Fuck Bitwig.
They said that a few months ago, so color me skeptical. Also, nothing has been posted on their website since January, and their last tweet was almost two months ago. They need to keep people updated, although it looks like they've paid a bunch of marketing monkeys to spam the living shit out of the boards here.Machinesworking wrote:BTW They just announced that they're starting the public beta in two weeks, and apologized for the delay.
I'm tired of everyone talking about Ableton as if it were an abusive husband who administered daily beatings to his wife and kids while those super heros from Bitwig are going to swoop in and save the day. Fuck that nonsense.

Bitwig looks awesome, but it's a 1.0 release, and not out yet, so it's funny to me how people get all football team patriotic about it. Personally if it doesn't offer a better live performance workflow than Live, I'm not interested. If it does, it better have a great ELUA and be as stable as Live. So far they're concentrating on presenting "better" songwriting features, which is cool for some, but not why I own Live in the first place.

Re: Fuck Bitwig.
There is no economy to rush with live 9, or Reaktor 6, or ( insert next great version here )
On a related note...
I don't think bitwig can make it to 1.0 let alone 2.0 or 3.0

Linear Phase has left the building..
Re: Fuck Bitwig.
I’m not even bothered now with Bitwig or Live 9 now. What does get my a little is I signed up for Bitwig beta testing in Jan 12 because it was coming soon…6 months later still no word and no product. As a company Ableton will be ‘OK’ because they have a product to sell, with no product the cash will run out for Bitwig, especially if they have to pay all the employees that are on their website. Of-course, may have already happened and it’s now two blokes in bedrooms, in their spare time, coding away.

When other people want or need something, they're "entitled" and "butthurt". When we want something, its completely rational and important.
Kind of like its how it's defined here (starting from the 2 min mark)...

I dont know, when I am feeling entitled, it feels important, but never rational.donmich wrote:its completely rational and important.

Yes, well that goes without saying...
Re: Fuck Bitwig.
i wish another DAW company would make a website with screen shots and no product. that way we could have 3 myths to debate.

I dont know about myth. But BW's snaffoo has ableton written all over it. Same pr skills too.
Although I emailed them once and they replied rather quickly (as does ableton). They just arent big on making ongoing public announcements I guess.
Their model doesnt make sense from a business standpoint. At least not what we know about it. So if we were betting folks or potential investors, having to make some guesses, deductions and assumptions a few things seem to come to mind, at least for me
a) they are ableton and merely test marketing or guaging public response on the feature set. Everything we say here about it is being watched closely.
b) BW could be a sister "step-down" company which will have leaner, trendier, say- "EDM production oriented" code and be updated more regularly while Live remains a flagship version of itself with less pressure to frequently update
c) there could be some mergers/aquistions/ leveraged buyout action going on and either "b" could be part of the roadmap or they found a legal way to break off and protect their invention/key people from being subsumed and compromised from some menacing future inevitability - like having to work and conform with Logic's engineers (as only a possible example).
All I'm saying is none of this weirdness is likely to be as it seems.

Meanwhile, i could never really find a use for Reason. However the Rack Extensions plan is very compelling and might actually make them increasingly attractive to a wider base of more mature producers.
Its a good paradigm with lots of nice CV applications. All they need are some useable and hopefully killer synths, an updated sampler with timestretch, some type of Geist/BFD integration and top-quality effects (all of which seems indicated by the list of partners), and if they're smart - some kind of FL playlist or clip launching kind of thing, and things will be wide open for producers again. RE is like a creeping sniper.
This is probably going to be a good year for production software.
