Hi all
will dedicate an old notebook to do LOOPS only with a Digi 003 or Mbox
The goad is to have a single track with a looper only and maybe a filter on the master out so it may not be CPU hungry and allow me to rec and play smoothly on the fly.
But, what would be the best software combinaition in term of OS software and Live version number?
it natively came with a 10.4 OSX
Would I dare going to 10.6?
what's the best and minimal version of Live to go for looping and optimizing this system?
cheers

i am to sure you can go on the live 8 and do it.
and maybe to go on and turn off or to go to minimize any graphic visuals that are on moving and no effects on.
for a examples, no moving visuals like on a knobs or meters to pervent the crackling noise that might go happen.
you welcome.

You have a conundrum - no looper till 8, but the min recommended speed for 8 is 1.8ghz plus 2gig min RAM.
If you're going to try 8, I'd suggest finding a pre-M4L version if you can (8.0.x I think). My entirely unscientific guess is that the early versions might be a bit more forgiving of a slower CPU. Could be completely wrong on that.
Version 7 runs rock solid on my 1.5ghz G4, but no looper. Maybe run 7 with a third party looping plugin?
As far as Mac OS goes, 10.6 is Intel only. 10.5 offers some advantages over 10.4 (using later itunes versions for newer ipod/ipad connectivity come to mind) but it's not so easy to find. If you can get you're hands on a copy it's probably worth it to upgrade, but if not just stick with 10.4 and call it good.

sell the notebook and get a looper pedal. less hassle.
live 3 will obviously run great on an older notebook. but any looping software will eat ram when in use.

Thanks for your help
I also noticed I didn't have the looper in my installed live7 but thought it was an option I didn't buy at the time.
I like the idea of ¨sell the notebook, buy a looper pedal¨. That is still a valid option but a looper would cost more than the price I would get from this laptop... and can you write mail on a loopstation? : )
