Create a single product produced by a single company where corporate bullshit doesn't get in the way of creativity and progress and doesn't force the truly talented and experienced employees to quit and go out on their own.

congrats, that's more rampant speculation than the Live 9 prediction threads.

Although I emailed them once and they replied rather quickly (as does ableton). They just arent big on making ongoing public announcements I guess.
Their model doesnt make sense from a business standpoint. At least not what we know about it. So if we were betting folks or potential investors, having to make some guesses, deductions and assumptions a few things seem to come to mind, at least for me

a) they are ableton and merely test marketing or guaging public response on the feature set. Everything we say here about it is being watched closely.

b) BW could be a sister "step-down" company which will have leaner, trendier, say- "EDM production oriented" code and be updated more regularly while Live remains a flagship version of itself with less pressure to frequently update

c) there could be some mergers/aquistions/ leveraged buyout action going on and either "b" could be part of the roadmap or they found a legal way to break off and protect their invention/key people from being subsumed and compromised from some menacing future inevitability - like having to work and conform with Logic's engineers (as only a possible example).

All I'm saying is none of this weirdness is likely to be as it seems.
always looking for the angle eh ?

so what's supposed to happen according to your scenario/s ?
Ableton sells the brand to Apple and moves into the BW offices with all the cash ?!

people sometimes drive me crazy with all these mumbo jumbo conspiracy theories over any possible thing involving humans....
if anyone was to pull a "scam" it would not be that obvious...give smart people some credit will ya ?
besides.. isn't it best to sell when your stocks are peaking ???
:?
Yo easy there big fella. You dont know me so you dont know what Im "always looking for". I was playing with you on that other thread and I thought you were doing the same. That said, my assessment of how the impact of the new economic conditions and business practices affect everyone and not just musicians is straight up, in your face facts.
What I hate is when narrow people call facts conspiracy theories and informed people conspiracy theorists. Not saying thats necessarily you, but youre sounding like it right now.

Anyway, as I said, from a business standpoint, what BW is doing doesnt make long term sense. In business you do have to consider what the possible reasons are for inexplicable maneuvers.

And lets say Apple or anyone else did buy Ableton, the first thing that always happens, and trust me I've been there is they make the engineers work together and share information. If the guys at BW actually invented the ableton code AND IF (and thats a big if) ableton has been bought, what they did was smart. That way, the new engineers are still left with old code, and Abletonprobably makes a killing in the sale and gets its bad debt (should it have any) taken off their hands.

But again, it wasnt the only scenario I provided. I also suggested that abe might be pursuing a 2 teir platform, which is VERY common. The big ticket items get changed every two or three years and keep revenue going, and the competitive pressure happens at the mid and lower level products where they can liscence more code and functions without haing to spend R&D $ and take too mich risk and have quick turnaround.

If Im wrong so what. But as I said, if I were investing in them I would be looking squarely at these scenarios.
If it is what it seems, and BW are seriously trying to compete with such a similar product - unless they have big investors which can really hurt ableton,or they know something we dont, what they are doing, from a business perspective is Re-Tar-ded.

Bitwig is now coding another DAW called Morwig from the ground up based on Bitwig. It is supposed to be better than Bitwig.

there's a bitwig forum setup some time ago and it already got speculative questions such as "will you be able to import livepacks and projects from Live?" and things such as "will bitwig and live be compatible with each other?" as if bitwig is in fact live and not a new daw based on live's principles. kind of funny that.

I heard a rumour that the main guys from Bitwig have left to set up their own company, that's why it's taking so long.

Sad news about that new company though, the main guys left to form their own new new company.

If it's so retarded to try and compete with ableton, how have they generated so much interest?

Seriously, live occupies a market segment all by itself. It's crying out for more competition. Or maybe bigwig should have made an analog synth vst?

andydes... you asked how they generated so much interest... but i think speculation is a better word.

you take an old promise, just add .jpegs, sprinkle it all over an online music forum and BLAM! instant software/gear lust. it's a perfect storm of greener grass.

Yeah, that was kind of my point. Speculation is a kind of interest. The fact that many people are hoping bitwig will allow them to do things they struggle with in live suggests there's plenty of room in the market for an alternative program.

Personally, I'm fine with live, and probably would stick with it anyway. I don't think it holds me back at all. I lay the blame for my lack of success where it belongs.

My post was a response to the idea there's some kind of weird business deal gong on.

oh theres some shady business going on for sure.....bigfoot told me all about it

if Ohm beta test is any indication, bitwig right out of the box will be a shitfest for months, even if it has a bunch of purdy colors and sparkly bits....
