no audio from instruments in midi slot

So I am trying to just create a simple snare buildup for a house set that i am working on.

granted i have not tried the instrument rack since i got ableton back in December but i recall when doing tutorials that i could hear sound when i used my computer keyboard.

now though when i map an instrument to a MIDI slot in session view and hit record then hit the keyboard, notes are mapping out but no sound is coming. also the little blinky lights next to the info/clip view will light up indicating that something must be happening.

i cant even hear the random notes i hit when i play the clip back.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

in the upper right is a button that switches your MIDI to your (standard computer) keyboard. that has to be armed, otherwise you will be using an external MIDI controller... if you have one setup.

hey actually my computer keyboard is armed, so im pretty sure thats not it.

okay sorry to clarify all DRUMS i have been trying will NOT play on the computer keyboard, but i tried piano and it works.

i guess its a matter of mapping the drum note i want to the computer keyboard but im not sure how to do that. i can hit the drum note in the pad of the device area at the bottom but if i want to play it in clip view i dont know how to since i need to switch from info view (where the pad area is) to clip view.

im sure this is a newbie problem but help would be appreciated.

you probbly hit notes that have no sounds assigned. try hitting the z or the x key until it works. (z and x will transpose your computer keyboard up or down an octave).
