I'm in the middle of installing Live 8 Suite. . . ONE Live Pack at a time.
It took me most of the day yesterday, and I still have two disks of Session Drums to go!
Anybody know a faster way to install the packs?

Just think... each gig of samples and every second of install time is that much more fexibility, that much more tweakable
life draining time you can spend lost in front of your monitor... a couple of hours today = days, weeks, months, years of *cough*
aggrivation, that is to say JOY... that you can have later.

I have a way on a clean install. This is for Windows at least...
When you install Live, BEFORE YOU LAUNCH IT FOR THE FIRST TIME, put all your LivePacks in your DefaultPackages folder. Mine is here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ableton\Live 8.0.4\Resources\DefaultPackages
Put everything in there. When you go for the first launch, go make a sandwich and walk the dog and then mow the lawn and come back. Live will install them one after the other automatically and you don't need to be there to click Install for each one.
It's not going to speed it up, but you aint gotta sit there and click Install then OK for each one.

hey great tip!!
but i have also many livepacks that have a different installation progress ...
- I need first to extract them in a folder outside from AL library
- Then to go through to Live library to the folder were i previously extract the files
- manage
- extract to library
man this is a big pain
any tip for that?

for this one,
after the installation i guess i can delete all the contents of the DefaultPackages folder??
even the real defaults?
My library is in an other location anyway ...
so the logic says that these files are useless after the first start up of the program?

I've just gone through the install of Live 8.3 + a bunch of instrument discs, noticed that my C:\ProgramData\Ableton\Live 8\Resources\DefaultPackages folder has filled up too. Can anyone confirm if it's OK to nuke the contents of this folder after install? Running an SSD, I don't have the luxury of space.

Copy all of the .alp files to a folder on a hard drive. Select them all and double click, Live will give you the option to install all of them at once. Not sure if this is true on PC, but it is on OS X.
