How does one do this?! Ive been trying to figure it outNokatus wrote:It has been used as a randomized impulse source in many generative Live constructs, at least. Which Ableton plugins do you never use?

The nightmare I'm having with all my automation being out of time again today - pretty soon, none of them ever again!!!!Which Ableton plugins do you never use?

I don't use much Ableton plugins at all. Kinda forced into using the compressor as you cannot side chain third party ones. Occasionally may use EQ8, but I have third party ones I prefer.

of course you can side-chain 3rd party compressors..
those that support it at least.. (have a sc input..)
(just send the sc signal to the plugin via routing..)
Re: Which Ableton plugins do you never use?
I LoOoVe vocoder but the real juice comes when it's used for what it's not meant to be.
The magic with live plugins is combination and chaining.
It is a joyful neverending story for me and that's why I use and like ableton live after all

Re: Which Ableton plugins do you never use?
The plugins I use do support sidechaining (in Logic at least), but whereas in Logic I get the option to choose the sc input source when editing the plugin settings, I get no such option in Live. How do I "send the sc signal to the plugin via routing"?3dot... wrote:trevox wrote:I don't use much Ableton plugins at all. Edit: I just did a sanity check and when I looked in Logic, all was okay. Tried using the VST versions of the plugins in Live and the option did not come up to route the audio to it from other tracks. Tried the AU version of the plugin and it does! Much thanks as I would have continued along in ignorance otherwise! Very happy as I much prefer my other dynamics plugins...
Re: Which Ableton plugins do you never use?
strange it should work for vsts too...
cheers..
cheers..
Re: Which Ableton plugins do you never use?
Strange indeed - I checked some other compressor plugins (VST's) and I do get the option to send sc audio to some of them. There is no rhyme or reason I can see as to why some work and why some don't, as they all work when I use the AU versions (in Live and Logic). Anyway, just glad to know I can do this now!
Re: Which Ableton plugins do you never use?
I understand the routing, but some VST's don't seem to work as designed - therefore I thought you simply couldn't side chain non-native compressors. After checking the AU versions, they do offer the option to send as sc, so I am all good now.funken wrote:You can sidechain The Glue in Live, this might work with otherstrevox wrote:I don't use much Ableton plugins at all. Nice routing tip on the Glue. I love that compressor
As far as Impulse is concerned, I find it quite useful.

Re: Which Ableton plugins do you never use?
I use most of them actually....
There's some MIDI plugs I don't use, (although I love the Velocity and random note ones) but I like it that they are there for others.
I've never once used the Looper or Vocoder, but that's really because they are not suitable/relevant to the sort of music I produce. I'm sure they're fine for those that want those sorts of things, and as a general principal I love it that Ableton has continued to develop a comprehensive range of built in stuff, most of which is certainly good enough not to bother buying VST alternatives
