TURNTABLE STYLUS QUESTION

This is just a basic hardware question.
The needle in my stylus just sits in a fitted hole at the end.
Every time I put it down on the record, it shimmies it's way nearly out the top of the hole, and wont play my records.
Anybody got a remedy, or is it time for me to buy a new one?
