It's more attractive and phonetics are correct for us americans'. bitvig

And I'm still thinking of wigs when i see bitwig. Like a wig for your bits.
from what I understand the name is a reference to live laptop musicians, a sort of nickname for the staring at the screen "stage show" a lot of them do.
Wearing a bit wig.
Right?? Little 1's and 0's with little wigs are forever associated in my mind. But I really do like the fact that they are local in mindset. German program, German inspired name, never mind the rest of them. It's cool. Regardless, the program can make the title work. But If the program is wonky, the name might be rough to deal with. Sheeit, look what we're doing. :P

Are there performers that stay exclusively in a laptop for the sake of it?

Ohh kayyy. It's been ten days since they announced "we're very pleased to finally start sending out the first beta invites." I haven't heard of anyone actually receiving one.

Also, unless there's an explicit non-disclosure agreement (I doubt it), it feels weird there doesn't seem to be one single "Bitwig Beta" Youtube video or screenshot or anything, posted by anyone who has happened to actually get the beta.

Is there anyone over here who is actually trying out the beta already, or is this what I think it is (Bitwig marketing saying they are handing out betas, to appease the crowd, but not actually doing it)?

ON HIS HOME PAGE THERE'S NO SCROLL BAR MY FABRIC OF REALITY HAS DISINTEGRATED

I'm just going to take his word for it on the BW quote, though. Good enough for me.

from his page
I have just learned, again directly from the Bitwig team, 2 significant details that I think you will want to know:

Bitwig Studio will not support AU plugins.
This is not such a huge deal since most plugins (except for some apple specific ones) usually come in both a VST and AU version. Also, since there are plenty of wrappers that can take VST plugin and provide the callable interfaces necessary to make it appear as an AU compatible plugin, most 3rd party AU plugins are probably wrapped VSTs anyway… The reasoning here is that Bitwig studio is exactly the same on all 3 platforms (win/mac/linux), so AU support falls out of scope as being platform specific. However, AU support might come in a future version according to the team.
Bitwig Studio will not support Max/MSP.
The announcement of Max for Live made quite the news bringing with it a new modular programming approach to Live. Max/MSP however will not be supported by Bitwig Studio, not in V1 and probably not going forward either according to Bitwig. This kind of makes sense given that Bitwig has it’s own ‘native modular framework’, though not much is known about this framework yet. (Check near the bottom of the Bitwig homepage.)
