Can't cue ! 4.1.4 + M-Audio Firewaire Audiophile + X-Session

Post by QUADratic » Sat Jul 09, 2005 10:13 pm

Hello . .

got ableton last week, gradually making sense of it for DJing purposes in no small part thanks to the helpful advise from this board ! . . . BUT . . .

I can't configure it to cue out which is really annoying. My input is purely firewire / WAV samples, output 1/2 to my mixer setup but it will not let me assign 3/4 to the cue headphones port . . . have used the config button but this only takes me back to the master out doesn't offer a cue option . .

help, frustrated !

Once I started clickin around a bit everything works great, here's how:

1. Open the "Mixer" tab on your FW Audio Control Panel.

2. On the "sw 1/2 rtn" column highlight "1/2" & "3/4".

3. Select the "Output" tab & highlight "3/4" in the phones column.

4. Open up Live (I'm using 4.0.3) & goto the Preferences.

5. Under the "Audio" tab, hit the "Output Config" button.

6. Highlight "1/2 (stereo)" & "3/4 (stereo)" and do the mono's too.

7. Make sure your using the ASIO drivers, my latency is 14ms.

8. Under the "View" menu, make "In/Out" & "Mixer" visible.

9. On the "Master" column, change the "Cue Out" from 1/2 to 3/4.

10. Hit the "Solo" button by the main volume & it should chage to "Cue".

Thats it! Now you can cue up stuff in your headphones, just make sure the little speaker button is off & the headphone button is on for each track that you wanna cue up.

This is using 1/2 for your main out 3/4 for your phones . . . the key thing I was missing was using the ASIO drivers, being new to PC based production / sequencing / DJing I didn't have a clue what to look for . . again the forum saves the day . . wish ableton would include a set up guide for some hardware (especially the stuff they offer in bundles) even the stuff that seems obvious to the seasoned user, to new comers it's incredibly frustrating and starts you regretting you decisions ! Only thing is Ableton is awesome so you can forgive it but there have been a few days where my forehead and desk have become well aquianted.

Cheers All especially the guy teaching the warp short cuts with the video !!! sorry forgotten your ID but you are a legend !!!!! :D
