sweepable lo pass hi pass filter

Post by JuanSOLO » Mon Jul 09, 2012 2:06 am

A sweepable filter.

turn knob left = LO PASS
turn knob right = HI PASS
center = clean signal

it would be nice to see this incorporated into
SAMPLER & SIMPLER
as well as a dedicated effect.

Why?

Only reason I can think of is so that you could map it to a single macro/hardware knob, which is something I've tried (unsuccessfully) to do, but to me the more comprehensive solution would be to increase the flexibility of macro/midi mapping in general by simply adding start and end points to the mappings. In this case, you could then map a full sweep of a low pass to the first half of the macro/hardware knob, and a full sweep of the high pass to the second half.

I have my own audio FX rack that has 1 instance of Auto Filter (hi pass) and 1 instance of EQ8 (lo pass) mapped to 1 macro to create a sweep able filter.
Thats not the issue.

The issue is wanting that capability on 16 individual drumCells and 8 Tracks.
Thats a lot of extra fx, extra CPU calculations, extra lag when working with midi clips, etc etc.

If it were built into Sampler, no fx chain trickery would be needed for drums.
If it were built into AutoFilter or was it's own effect, only 1 instance of that effect would be necessary for Tracks as an effect.
It would make things simpler.
I mainly work with Live as if it were a performance/instrument, not a produce music freeze tracks, bounce tracks kind of thing.

thats why.

While Racks do add some overhead, if such filters were added to Sampler there would be additional CPU load for it. It's not like putting code inside the instrument reduces the amount of CPU computations.

but there's already a morphing filter in Sampler, just asking to make it morph in such a way.
As for racking fx in this manner, it would cut the amount in half, dramatically reducing CPU, and load times.

geez, never had so much opposition on a feature request before.
do you guys just go around opposing threads all day or what.

Sorry Juan, I didn't mean to oppose you. I just wanted to know why you wanted it. You answered my question, and your reason was different to what I thought it was, so I'm glad I asked.

I'd be really interested in looking at your rack. As I said, I haven't been able to find a satisfying way of sticking a high pass/low pass on a single knob.

Tarekith has one in his FX rack download, however he was using 2 EQ8's. I swapped out the hi pass EQ for an AutoFilter.

I'm not convinced, man; you're gonna have to really justify this request. I mean... Who needs to go from lo pass to hi pass like that?

:P

Seriously, though, I've really squeezed my brain over this one myself; this type of filter is really useful for mixing - I use it a lot in Traktor. I say build it into Autofilter; Live's rack macros aren't flexible enough, and it's hard to get this one right.
