And an expensive piece of software http://www.dv247.com/computer-music-sof ... are--93544
expensive because: if that is the real price, the feature set isn't there to support it. Its not cubase, sonar, or something. its a naked 1.0

Thats what I was hoping for.Machinesworking wrote:I hoped it was going to be a laptop performance instrument geared towards live use mainly.
Same goes for Live 9.
I want one of these companies to make using a laptop more 'playable' than ever before.

I wouldn't believe at all that that's the price, I think they're just trying to be the first up there to get a list of names interested in ordering when it comes, maybe give them a little deal for whatever the actual price is for pre-order.expensive because: if that is the real price, the feature set isn't there to support it. Performance wise, maybe this is where Linux would come in handy. If your card is supported, perhaps a less bloated streamlined OS would add new life to an older laptop. I'm sure there will be a group who customizes a build specifically for BW like they did with UbuntuStudio or whatever it's called.

http://www.bitwig.com - it says it right on their homepage. They are no longer taking beta applicants either.simmerdown wrote:no, it hasn't...Chingy wrote:Bitwig's beta has already started actually...Live 9's is nowhere in sight as of right now.

I guess they don't have the balls to release a public beta.Chingy wrote:http://www.bitwig.com - it says it right on their homepage. The new intro vid looks cool. But a DAW is really just a medium used to achieve something else.. and I'm pretty invested in -and happy with- what I'm using right now.

what's the vibe on the DAW-agnostic sites like KVR? Mexican standoff? much ado about nothing? great things ahead?

Well I got a thread locked for posting a cat gif, but it's generally positive. Mostly people who didn't like Live for various reasons are excited to some ridiculous degree, then others are amused at their loyalty to a product that isn't even out yet. Mostly though people are wishing it was out already so the speculation would end. A pretty universal wish!Tone Deft wrote:what's the vibe on the DAW-agnostic sites like KVR? I have always found the dichotomy between a perormance oriented platform and a DAW, or at least Ableton, a false one. To me it seems well suited to both, but why must performance oriented software preclude DAW functions? Maybe you can help me understand this a bit better.
Unless you use a bunch of Loopmasters for your source material or just have arpegiators driving your synths etc I dont understand how you would forego the kind of preproduction, loop/sequence creation, sound design and so on that the more DAW oriented features of Live provides. what is it you are performing?
While I may or may not wish to play or improvise a given track or performance, I generally can spend ages on careful sound design. Its intrinsic to my composition. Live makes all kinds of things possible n this regard other DAWs dont. Or if it isnt directly responsible for sound design techniques, I design sounds, patches, relationships etc for specific Live functions.
Why should the software exclude either side? It just means having to use more software and break things up into multiple phases.
Imo anyway.
But I am interested in your thoughts on this.

Once its released.. we shall have three years of people running around the web forums, claiming it is the BEST DAW. BETTER THAN REAPER. CUBASE... BUY IT BUY IT
then it will just out of nowhere die...
and you will only see people defending it, when you bother to say, "it sucks ass."
