Update:
My rMBP arrived yesterday and it so far works fine with my Alesis Multimix8 USB, Iomega HD and UC33e. I'm becoming more sure that class-compliant USB2.0 devices are likely to work in USB3.0 sockets, while devices with drivers seem to have issues.

I will say one thing though... the once-beautiful Live interface now looks really craggy and rough on a gorgeous retina display... roll on an Ableton update... But it is a fast machine. :)

A fix from NI forums with a little warning it rolls back the ports to USB 2 speeds, hopefully Apple comes up with a better driver and or thedeveloperscan works out better drivers for their cads

indeed, I downloaded the demo to a Retina MBP at the Apple Store yesterday and it really looked bad - even at the 'native' 1400x900 resolution. primarily it was the text that was the most offensive.

Image

I didn't zoom the size of this image - this was 100% on my screen, but the resolution is so high that it increases in size when you open the image. Left of the image is Safari displaying the Ableton forum, right side is Live 8. Having said that, I have always loved the design of the Live interface and I'm sure future updates will address hi-res screens.

I haven't done a performance test yet, I'll get on it.

Going back to USB 3 and 2 - any other issues (or non-issues)? I think because lots of folk use MBPs for music production the legacy USB problem could be gnarly...

Update: Peter Kirn on Create Digital Music has added some new info about this issue, specifically to do with NI devices: http://createdigitalmusic.com/2012/07/u ... more-24785
